III: Two Churches Only?

(Thoughts about the Doctrine of Two Ways as observed through the lens of Scripture)

10 And [the angel] said unto me: Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth.
(Book of Mormon | 1 Nephi 14:10, bea)¹

These words were written in the Americas in the mid- to late-500s B.C. about the time of the prophesied destruction of Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem.² These words narrow our focus to a single dichotomy similar perhaps to Christ’s counsel about the narrow way and the broad way³ which, in essence, can be viewed as a single road, going narrowly up or broadly down, depending on the direction one is sincerely facing (which may fluctuate moment to moment); such a single road being the Doctrine of Two Ways.⁴

From the Pearl of Great Price, we see the beginning⁵ of these two churches (belief systems) in the days of Adam and Eve. We learn that when they sought direction for their lives from their now invisible, creator God, they were commanded to:

▪ worship the Lord their God;
▪ sacrifice the firstlings of their flocks as an offering to the Lord in similitude of the sacrifice of the Only Begotten of the Father⁶;
▪ do all that thou doest in the name of the Son;
▪ repent;
▪ call upon God in the name of the Son forever more.⁷

They were given the assurance that redemption from their fallen state was possible for “all mankind, even as many as will.” And some time thereafter, baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost were given ⁸ completing the Gospel fundamentals for our first parents — being the Doctrine of Christ⁹: faith, repentance, baptism, gift of the Holy Ghost, obedience, prayer, endurance to the end.

However, between the two events above:

12 ... Adam and Eve blessed the name of God, and they made all things known unto their sons and their daughters.
13 And Satan came among them, saying: I am also a son of God; and he commanded them, saying: Believe it not; and they believed it not, and they loved Satan more than God. And men began from that time forth to be carnal, sensual, and devilish.

Secrets, secret combinations, and conspiracies “seeking for power”¹¹ and to “murder and get gain”¹² soon followed. From the continual lamentations of God and His prophets,¹³ we know that the church of the devil persisted as a recognizable pattern and system in history as Satan obsessed over the worship, honors, and powers he felt and still feels entitled to and relentlessly pursues.¹⁴

The angel’s words “save two churches only” emphasize that despite the various stories, doctrines, myths, and multiplicities of gods throughout the world ages, many, if not most, will be (in our modern vernacular) “avatars” for the rebellious one — the same aspiring usurper who had so often seduced into corruption, idolatry, and rebellion, time after time, the people of and prior to Noah’s days and Abraham’s days, plus the tribes of Israel and Judah.

So what about us in this day? Are we amongst the seduced, the blind, the deceived, the corrupted? Is Paul right? Is Jesus right? Is Joseph Smith right?

Paul; 10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Jesus: 16 ¶ And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

Joseph: 5 Therefore, what I say unto one I say unto all: Watch, for the adversary spreadeth his dominions, and darkness reigneth;
6 And the anger of God kindleth against the inhabitants of the earth; and none doeth good, for all have gone out of the way.

Why would God (and His servants) make such numerous accusations of our iniquity?¹⁵

Could it be to:

▪ shock us to awareness of how immersed we are in the darkness of accumulated philosophies, corruptions, idolatries, traditions, and lies¹⁶?
▪ awaken us to the intransigence of approaching Justice and Judgment¹⁷ when / if God’s Mercy has not been made efficacious for our individual lives by thorough repentance?

For the most part, we seem to lack awareness of how deep and broad sincere repentance must extend — how even “minor” offenses against truth, love, and justice must be acknowledged and cleared. God is not trying to depress us or discourage us in the midst of our weak, repetitious, addictions and blindness. He is trying to:

▪ save us from ourselves — from our fallen propensities and uncleanness;
▪ awaken us to our God-ordained missions, purposes, and potential (“to fulfill the measure of our creation”¹⁸) through sought-after personal inspiration / revelation given to us by His Spirit and in His timing;
▪ prove whether we can be trusted with increasing knowledge and power.¹⁹

Yes, we are His children, but do we think we can become heirs²⁰ of power and glory while in a prodigal, egocentric state? Have we been captured by philosophies that claim we are as Gods because our divine inner-nature has present capacity not only to know good and evil, but to re-define what is good and evil for ourselves?

Do we see the twist? Yes, God affirmed:

..., Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil:

but “to know” does not mean to go beyond knowing “to deciding / re-defining” what is good and evil as in the Crowley-ian “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.”²¹

How many have been captured by this recycling “New [Ancient] Age” Law that underlies in varying emphasis and expression many self-help, self-advancement philosophies? How many of the following  partake in the déjà vus of distract, divert, deceive? Where is the Light and where is the dark in each of these and others?

• Gnosticism?
• nature worship; Naturalism?
• Eastern and other mysticisms?²²
• degrees in secret societies like the Masons?
• theosophy?²³
• magic & the occult?
• transpersonal psychology?
• sovereigntist movement?²⁴
• psychedelic / hallucinogenic drug culture?²⁵
• Esalen Institute / Human-Potential Movement (HPM)?²⁶
• est (Erhard Seminars Training)?²⁷
• Neuro-Linguistic Programing (NLP)?²⁸
• The Avatar Course?²⁹
• Energy therapies?³⁰
• LGATs (Large Group Awareness Training)³¹ & Mind Dynamics?
• Galactic Federation of Light, et al.?³²
• plus other endless re-inventions and re-brandings? 

OR what of the “prophetic” deterministic chains of astrology, fortune-telling, psychic-readings?

So many of us labour and are heavy laden with trying to discover the secrets (purposes, direction, meaning) of our individual lives. Undoubtedly, there are many valuable books and resources, but do we ever ask: Does this require a faith-transfer away from the Lamb of God’s Will and Word?

So, let us decide: Are we in a game of no rules or hidden rules or gnosis encased in the collective unconscious or altered consciousness? OR is mortality a probation³³ with guidelines written in God’s Word? Do we ever ask: What is my touch-stone? my lens? Where am I looking for guidance? Am I too impatient, too afraid, to wait on the Will and Word of God?

5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.
7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.

For those without conscience, Christ’s invitation to rest in Him has no meaning, but for those who once suffered oppressive, unbearable burdens of obsession, addiction, confusion, they can bear witness of the truth of this promise to those still burdened:

29 Then spake Jesus, saying, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
30 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Now, lastly: Where is the Church of the Lamb of God to be found? Considering the déjà vus of history, and the lamentations of God about His people, perhaps His church³⁴ is in pieces and stages of compliance with His Will and Word and will be fully healed, unified, and re-named at His Second Coming.

In the meantime, let's get figured out which church our thoughts, speech, and actions sustain.

Dear Fellow USians:

Yes, tomorrow, November 5 is, by all appearances, a precipitous tipping point. We USians have finally got ourselves boxed in to a one-way downward spiral. By ignoring most of the exposés¹ detailing the crimes and corruptions of elected officials (EOs with their puppet masters and servitors) both Right and Left, we have been maneuvered by Non-Government Global Powers (NGPs²) into a choice between: 1) tyranny of a collective (“Democrats”); or 2) tyranny of a cult-like king figure (“Republican”). Perhaps there has never been a more tragic case of “seeing, they see not, and hearing, they hear not”³ the inevitable outcome of our 2024 choice whether it be Right or Left, Left or Right.

So what is the choice?

To the RIGHT, a divo⁴

• who claimed he could shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue in New York and not lose loyal voters⁵;
• whose need for narcissistic supply is boundless and whose unwitting “flying monkeys” are everywhere;
• who is a master showman following the sound of his own self-serving trumpet;
• whose truth is primarily self-aggrandizing. flexible, embellished, fabricated.

To the LEFT, a diva⁶

• who fronts for a collective pushing for more and more [faux-]wokeness⁷;
• who vigorously parrots abortion “rights” with an, as yet, unspecified upper limit⁸;
• who blindly follows the ideology of DEI⁹ and Mao-like cultural revolution¹⁰;
• whose truth is primarily inverted, flexible, embellished, fabricated.

Yes, God is going to let US choose tyranny, whether to the Right or to the Left. Considering the repeating, historical pride cycles¹¹ of empires and civilizations, the USA (especially considering its promise and destiny) is on course for a justified cleansing, BUT if there are enough people awake to this dire situation of unchecked secret combinations and corruptions, we may yet escape the utter destruction visited upon two of our predecessors in the Ancient Americas: the Jaredites and the Nephites.

Time will tell the extent of our suffering and devastation.

So dear USians, whose “trumpet” are we going to hear? Many seem to think that Trump is God’s trumpet, but what if wanna-be-king Donald’s pattern is to trump (out-sound) even God’s trumpet? Have we listened to Trump 360 or just heard the 180 we like? What about Harris who seems to have already declared her non-affiliation¹²? What if the ignored 180 contradicts the preferred 180? What if both sides continually engage in word spin and spiral¹³ pretending commitment to freedoms and protections that they are already violating? What if God’s trumpet is His words, His law? How are we doing in hearkening — in forsaking the lures, culture, heroes, and ideologies of Babylon?

16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
17 Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.

What does the sound of God's trump say?

Moral Orientation: Part III - Self-as-Sovereign

(Thoughts and Observations)

If we view history and humanity through moral orientation, we seem, in thought and deed, to continually fluctuate between orientations:

1. Transcendent / Divine
2. Social / Power Consensus
3. Self-as-Sovereign [as Supreme Authority].

The third orientation: self-as-sovereign runs along a spectrum from sweet, naïve new-ager types who radiate love, peace, freedom, tolerance, live-and-let-live all the way to the extreme, “do what thou wilt,” hard-core pederast.

Yes, tolerance and live-and-let-live are essential elements in this mortal probation³ with its moral agency — where  tolerance means accepting people without having to accept their ideas or demands. They pursue their own way and we pursue them with “Good News” (as much as they will allow).

Granted, maintaining peace and social order is a complex task in a complex society, but in large measure private, personal choices do not injure others or their property. If choices do harm (especially the innocent), there are generally criminal and civil remedies, but, in the end, all thought, speech, and action, public or private, will be judged by Divine Justice — not by social / power consensus or some sovereign-self defense. The Great Judge will decide, in every individual case, if it is just to apply mercy.⁴ In the meantime, however, our societies and cultures must learn how to manage aggressive, self-as-sovereign activists and tyrants (and their servitors) who pursue control and domination.

If we had retained memory of the “Grand Council,”⁵ we might be better able to spot the many mortal variants of that first and famous self-as-sovereign activist — the one described by God:

1 AND I, the Lord God, spake unto Moses, saying: That Satan, whom thou hast commanded in the name of mine Only Begotten, is the same which was from the beginning, and he came before me, saying—Behold, here am I, send me, I will be thy son, and I will redeem all mankind, that one soul shall not be lost, and surely I will do it; wherefore give me thine honor.
2 But, behold, my Beloved Son, which was my Beloved and Chosen from the beginning, said unto me—Father, thy will be done, and the glory be thine forever.
3 Wherefore, because that Satan rebelled against me, and sought to destroy the agency of man, which I, the Lord God, had given him, and also, that I should give unto him mine own power; by the power of mine Only Begotten, I caused that he should be cast down;
4 And he became Satan, yea, even the devil, the father of all lies, to deceive and to blind men, and to lead them captive at his will, even as many as would not hearken unto my voice (Pearl of Great Price | Moses 4:1-4).

Isaiah said of this failed usurper:

12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High (Old Testament | Isaiah 14:12-14).

We see this self-as-sovereign attitude manifest in the monuments, inscriptions, and writings of many kings, pharaohs, emperors, wanna-be’s, et al. throughout history. In page after page in Empires of the Bible one can read the extravagant, self-accolades of old world tyrants.⁶

And what is self-as-sovereign if not: “I am who I think and say I am; I am subjectively able to decide what is good and what is bad; I am destined, deserving, entitled to rule in whatever spheres I choose; My way is the way”? And thus we hear the ever recycling divine lament of “their own way.”⁷

We are now witnessing a self-as-sovereign explosion, especially, in the promotion by seducers and servitors of “sovereign” dysphorics — supreme arbiters now of what is “real” based on feelings; of what is good speech, what is hate speech; what is right, what is wrong; what is timely, what is not; what another must say and think to conform to the sovereign-self’s self-image. Values orientation is now subjective and personal unless contested, and then it (bizarrely) becomes objective and compulsory (for less-sovereign selves?). Almost always, the self-as-sovereign moves from personal choice to public coercion.

We see this self-as-sovereign manifest throughout scripture, every time an “authority” took it upon him- / herself to act outside divine orientation. Think of kings Saul, David, Solomon and on down the divided line for generations. We see it succinctly expressed in the words of anti-Christ Korihor:

17 And many more such things did he [Korihor] say unto them, telling them that there could be no atonement made for the sins of men, but every man fared in this life according to the management of the creature; therefore every man prospered according to his genius, and that every man conquered according to his strength; and whatsoever a man did was no crime.
18 And thus he did preach unto them, leading away the hearts of many, causing them to lift up their heads in their wickedness, yea, leading away many women, and also men, to commit whoredoms—telling them that when a man was dead, that was the end thereof  (Book of Mormon | Alma 30:17-18).

We see it in the descriptions of the “natural man.”⁸ Many, in the past, have conspired to be rulers, and using fear, favour, and falsehood have prospered for a time, always with the help of social / power consensus. As Étienne de La Boétie observed:

I should like merely to understand how it happens that so many men, so many villages, so many cities, so many nations, sometimes suffer under a single tyrant who has no other power than the power they give him; who is able to harm them only to the extent to which they have the willingness to bear with him; who could do them absolutely no injury unless they preferred to put up with him rather than contradict him. Surely a striking situation! Yet it is so common that one must grieve the more and wonder the less at the spectacle of a million men serving in wretchedness, their necks under the yoke, not constrained by a greater multitude than they ...⁸

Now under COVID, “gender,” and climate politics, we have regressed to another déjà vu of tyranny and mindless servitors. With the aid of the internet, social / power consensus has elevated the self-as-sovereign orientation to new heights, creating a flood of mini-tyrants — a plague of bullies; a bully culture. Social / Power consensus and self-as-sovereign have conjoined once again to battle against transcendent / divine. So, have we come to this?

5 [T]he people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable (Old Testament | Isaiah 3:5).

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever (New Testament | Romans 1:25).

Before ending this post, I reiterate: for truly dysphoric adolescents, compassion with a balancing of facts, feelings, faith, and science (NOT pscience ⁹) can help adolescents navigate crises till the age of maturity when as adults, they can make a choice of orientation and presentation, but not a choice to coerce conformity in others.

In the meantime what choices are we, adults, making? Are we, “compassionately” coaching youth to live in the suffocation and sin of self-focus and -centredness with the expectation of happiness, joy, peace? Are we too sophisticated to mention:

19 [K]now ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's (New Testament | 1 Corinthians 6:19-20)?

Let us ponder whether our participation in the mocking of divine truths and divine traditions that have proven themselves over millennia is but a precursor to the sudden demise of our own arrogance.

Choose You This Day*?

If you have encountered the book, The Return of the Gods,¹ you will know why God's will is that we “obtain a knowledge of history”² for at least three reasons: 1) déjà vu; 2) déjà vu; 3) déjà vu.

What do we know of the main three gods that seduced ancient Israel: Baal, Astarte (Ishtar), and Moloch³? Every one of these pagan gods was obsessed with self, sex. human-sacrifice, and power / domination — the chief purveyors of corrupting iniquity. But despite continual warnings, God's people and their kings repeatedly succumbed to the seductions of self, sex, and child-sacrifice. And what, in our day, is abortion⁴ if not child-sacrifice?

Can we thus recognize that we are, this very day, in the midst of the same four seductions and emulations. Many of our nations have now passed laws sustaining the ways of the pagan gods and rejecting the God of Salvation. Yet it appears that the majority have still not awakened to the awful situation that envelopes US. Yes, we must have compassion for the truly confused and deceived, but to march in SOD⁵ parades and promote SOD agendas of inversion and pretense is to follow in “the [divinely denounced] way of Jeroboam”⁶ — the first king of “the Northern” tribes of Israel who turned the people to confusion and idolatry to preserve and protect power.

And though many nations have, over time, fallen into the way of Jeroboam, do we dare admit which nation now stands as the national Jeroboam? Is it the nation presenting itself as the golden head of empires, as the king of kingdoms⁷? the USian nation of “the North” American continent? In its founding, Israel was laden with promise, hope, and responsibility, yet what happened to it? Repeated apostasy.

As we consider our present culture and social media contagions, what do we see but the obsessions of self, sex, and tyrannical power? — the emulation and promotion of pretense and pagan god values? the resurgence of the iniquities that have marked the decline and death of every empire?

So what can we do? Inform ourselves. Study The Return of the Gods. Recognize the déjà vus and parallels of history. Discuss these parallels with others. Expose the resurgent spirit of the pagan gods. Stand by Constitutional values and principles. Leave others free to choose their private life-style, but not free to publicly coerce or tyrannize others. Be courageous. Be intensely prayerful. And ponder this:

8 ¶ Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.
9 Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;

4. As for the recent 2023 reversal of Roe v. Wade (federal abortion law of 1973), we will someday know the true story and motives behind that reversal; and though it has undoubtedly saved some lives,  abortions still continue, including full-term and after-birth termination (murder). 
5. SOD: self-obsessed diva / divo. Genuine dysphorics just want to live their lives without demanding that the world affirm, applaud, and pay bending homage to their choice. They wish to attend social, sports, or other functions in their chosen persona without fanfare and without the narcissistic need to have the entire event and all actors, athletes, and audience roll out the lavender carpet in spectacular welcome, which, by the way, violates every one of their trumpeted mantras: diversity, equity, inclusion. Where is the diversity and equity in excluding everyone who is not SOD in the special recognition and affirmation of their lifestyle? Where is the DEI in their vociferous demands for special privilege and exemption from criticism or challenge or hurt feelings?

8. Despite diverging opinions, the Federal founders were committed to the separation of Church and State, but not the separation of moral values and state. There was to be no religious coercion of the individual, but integrity in government was expected. This post (https://dejavu-timestwo.blogspot.com/2022/12/patterns-of-exodus-preparing-for-exodus.html), and this book (Godawa, Brian. Wall of Separation: The Phrase that Divided America, Warrior Poet Publishing. Kindle Edition) document the Biblical values and principles that guided the founders, but their overarching commitment to liberty of conscience was the same as subsequently expressed by the Prophet Joseph Smith in 1842 when he wrote: “11 We claim the privilege of worshipping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may”  (Pearl of Great Price | Articles of Faith 1:11). The individual would be left free to choose values and principles according to conscience, while the state was to govern itself within the limits of constitutional powers and civil jurisdiction by honest and wise men and women according to justice and equity.
