Dehorning the “Kings”*?

As we have just passed through our annual season of gift-giving and as we move into a new year of increased economic foreboding,1 perhaps now is a good time to review the “natural man”2 economies of socialism, communism, and capitalism as they compare to the voluntary, divine-modelled, gift economy.3

Here is a recent text and audio observation by Charles Eisenstein, an advocate of the “sacred economy” who has been profiled before in Déjà Vu Times II.4
2023: The More Beautiful World our Hearts Know is Possible5
If more of us freely adopted the gift economy as witnessed in God's modelling (not necessarily congruent with all of Eisenstein's ideas), would it help break the back of the Babylonian beast system and help dehorn its “kings”? Or are we going to cling to the horns of corrupted power and gain to the bitter end because that is what we know best? Except power and gain are not shared universally in the beast system; not even for sycophants and enforcers of its technocratic slave economy. The beast system, despite its equality claims, has no interest in the equality expressed in scripture. As it stands, many in our midst are also not comfortable with our equality scriptures,6 but if the predicted, programmed, contrived, global scarcity continues, we may be presented against our will with opportunities to practice the gift economy in the spirit of:
13 And now, because ye are compelled to be humble blessed are ye; for a man sometimes, if he is compelled to be humble, seeketh repentance; and now surely, whosoever repenteth shall find mercy; and he that findeth mercy and endureth to the end the same shall be saved.
14 And now, as I said unto you, that because ye were compelled to be humble ye were blessed, do ye not suppose that they are more blessed who truly humble themselves because of the word?
15 Yea, he that truly humbleth himself, and repenteth of his sins, and endureth to the end, the same shall be blessed—yea, much more blessed than they who are compelled to be humble because of their exceeding poverty.
16 Therefore, blessed are they who humble themselves without being compelled to be humble; or rather, in other words, blessed is he that believeth in the word of God, and is baptized without stubbornness of heart, yea, without being brought to know the word, or even compelled to know, before they will believe. ...
25 For I do not mean that ye all of you have been compelled to humble yourselves; for I verily believe that there are some among you who would humble themselves, let them be in whatsoever circumstances they might. (Book of Mormon | Alma 32:13-16, 25)
Let us seek to do whatever is within our power and influence to learn, live, and sustain the principles of a gift economy.

* New Testament | Revelation 13:1, 11
   1 AND I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. ...
   11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
New Testament | Revelation 17:3, 7, 12-16
   3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. ...
   7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns. ...
   12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
   13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.
   14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
   15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
   16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.
New Testament | Revelation 12:3
   3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

6. (All bold emphasis added.)
Doctrine and Covenants | Section 76:92-96

   92 And thus we saw the glory of the celestial, which excels in all things—where God, even the Father, reigns upon his throne forever and ever;
   93 Before whose throne all things bow in humble reverence, and give him glory forever and ever.
   94 They who dwell in his presence are the church of the Firstborn; and they see as they are seen, and know as they are known, having received of his fulness and of his grace;
   95 And he makes them equal in power, and in might, and in dominion.
   96 And the glory of the celestial is one, even as the glory of the sun is one.
Doctrine and Covenants | Section 78:5-7
   5 That you may be equal in the bonds of heavenly things, yea, and earthly things also, for the obtaining of heavenly things.
   6 For if ye are not equal in earthly things ye cannot be equal in obtaining heavenly things;
   7 For if you will that I give unto you a place in the celestial world, you must prepare yourselves by doing the things which I have commanded you and required of you.
Doctrine and Covenants | Section 88:107
   107 And then shall the angels be crowned with the glory of his might, and the saints shall be filled with his glory, and receive their inheritance and be made equal with him.
New Testament | Matthew 20:9-13
   9 And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.
   10 But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny.
   11 And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house,
   12 Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.
   13 But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?
New Testament | Colossians 4:1
   1 MASTERS, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.
Book of Mormon | Jacob 5:73-74
   73 And there began to be the natural fruit again in the vineyard; and the natural branches began to grow and thrive exceedingly; and the wild branches began to be plucked off and to be cast away; and they did keep the root and the top thereof equal, according to the strength thereof.
   74 And thus they labored, with all diligence, according to the commandments of the Lord of the vineyard, even until the bad had been cast away out of the vineyard, and the Lord had preserved unto himself that the trees had become again the natural fruit; and they became like unto one body; and the fruits were equal; and the Lord of the vineyard had preserved unto himself the natural fruit, which was most precious unto him from the beginning.
Book of Mormon | Alma 1:26
   26 And when the priests left their labor to impart the word of God unto the people, the people also left their labors to hear the word of God. And when the priest had imparted unto them the word of God they all returned again diligently unto their labors; and the priest, not esteeming himself above his hearers, for the preacher was no better than the hearer, neither was the teacher any better than the learner; and thus they were all equal, and they did all labor, every man according to his strength.
Doctrine and Covenants | Section 51:3
   3 Wherefore, let my servant Edward Partridge, and those whom he has chosen, in whom I am well pleased, appoint unto this people their portions, every man equal according to his family, according to his circumstances and his wants and needs.
Doctrine and Covenants | Section 70:12-14
   12 He who is appointed to administer spiritual things, the same is worthy of his hire, even as those who are appointed to a stewardship to administer in temporal things;
   13 Yea, even more abundantly, which abundance is multiplied unto them through the manifestations of the Spirit.
   14 Nevertheless, in your temporal things you shall be equal, and this not grudgingly, otherwise the abundance of the manifestations of the Spirit shall be withheld.
Doctrine and Covenants | Section 82:16-19
   16 Behold, here is wisdom also in me for your good.
   17 And you are to be equal, or in other words, you are to have equal claims on the properties, for the benefit of managing the concerns of your stewardships, every man according to his wants and his needs, inasmuch as his wants are just—
   18 And all this for the benefit of the church of the living God, that every man may improve upon his talent, that every man may gain other talents, yea, even an hundred fold, to be cast into the Lord's storehouse, to become the common property of the whole church—
   19 Every man seeking the interest of his neighbor, and doing all things with an eye single to the glory of God.
Doctrine and Covenants | Section 88:107
   107 And then shall the angels be crowned with the glory of his might, and the saints shall be filled with his glory, and receive their inheritance and be made equal with him.
Doctrine and Covenants | Section 88:122
   122 Appoint among yourselves a teacher, and let not all be spokesmen at once; but let one speak at a time and let all listen unto his sayings, that when all have spoken that all may be edified of all, and that every man may have an equal privilege.
Doctrine and Covenants | Section 90:6
   6 And again, verily I say unto thy brethren, Sidney Rigdon and Frederick G. Williams, their sins are forgiven them also, and they are accounted as equal with thee in holding the keys of this last kingdom;
Doctrine and Covenants | Section 107:24-26
   24 And they form a quorum, equal in authority and power to the three presidents previously mentioned.
   25 The Seventy are also called to preach the gospel, and to be especial witnesses unto the Gentiles and in all the world—thus differing from other officers in the church in the duties of their calling.
   26 And they form a quorum, equal in authority to that of the Twelve special witnesses or Apostles just named.
Doctrine and Covenants | Section 107:36-37
   36 The standing high councils, at the stakes of Zion, form a quorum equal in authority in the affairs of the church, in all their decisions, to the quorum of the presidency, or to the traveling high council.
   37 The high council in Zion form a quorum equal in authority in the affairs of the church, in all their decisions, to the councils of the Twelve at the stakes of Zion.

The Choice: MEconomy or WEconomy?

Several years ago, I encountered Charles Eisenstein and the gift-economy.1 It was like light flooding into the darkened maze of our competitive, profit-obsessed, BIG business culture. My first introduction to Eisenstein was through the printed word, but here is a short film introduction for the uninitiated:

Sacred Economics with Charles Eisenstein - A Short Film (Time 12:08) at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEZkQv25uEs&t=4s
Sometime before Eisenstein, I had encountered Daniel Pink2 and his book, Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us. Therein, he described how researchers have discovered that money as a reward / incentive can actually be a hindrance and disincentive to efficiency, creativity, and best effort.

Then about two weeks ago, I heard Quinn Michaels3 distill the choice into: MEconomy or WEconomy.

So, let us ponder: What are the choices we are individually making in economics? Do we think we have to wait for “authorities” to setup,  define, or structure the WEconomy before we can choose? Have we fallen into the déjà vu seduction of power and gain agendas of the MEconomy?4 Do we have the courage and faith to trust in God's gift economy and begin to make individual changes that in the aggregate of many individuals can change the world?

Everyone Gets What He Deserves??

(Jedem das Seine = literally, "to each his own" |  figuratively "everyone gets what he deserves")

Main camp gate at Buchenwald
For photo attribution see * below
This German proverb was written over the main gate of the Buchenwald concentration camp.1

The words “Everyone gets what he deserves” may sound just and true, but let us take a brief stroll through scripture and history. Remember Abel? Isaiah? Jeremiah? Zacharias? John the Baptist? Jesus? Stephen? Peter, James, John, colleagues, & converts? Abinadi?2 the believers at Ammonihah?3 the Anti-Nephi-Lehies?4 the thousands of other Christian martyrs like John Huss, William Tyndale, et al.?5 the falsely accused and convicted? the numerous genocide victims of the ages? the millions of abused and trafficked children of this 21st Century?6 & on and on?

YET, this proverb — Everyone gets what he deserves — seems to have become the thesis and mantra of the “Right —  a “Right” that seeing, cannot yet see how its preferred economic system favors / encourages / rewards the psychopathic.7

Remember the phrase and professor of “You can buy anything in this world for money”? Could it be the same worldly professor of “Everyone gets what he deserves”? Could it be the same ground dweller who put these ideas into the mind and mouth of Korihor?
... that there could be no atonement made for the sins of men, but every man fared in this life according to the management of the creature; therefore every man prospered according to his genius, and that every man conquered according to his strength; and whatsoever a man did was no crime;8
the same inspiration for Cain?
Truly I am Mahan, the master of this great secret, that I may murder and get gain.9
Do we really think that competitive, natural men and women10 — those pursuers and protectors of power and gain in this world — have any just concept of who deserves what and when? Is this really a proverb that has been co-opted to justify “conservative” opinions about the undeserving poor, needy, downtrodden, and weak of this world? a proverb, that with honest study, can be seen to counter most of what the Savior said about the poor, the needy, AND the rich?11

Whether conservatives are willing to admit it or not, this proverb expresses a core tenant of their “faith” in free markets, capitalism, and Randian “objectivism.”12 BUT, what if this proverb, in reality, is a distortion of a higher reality? What if this proverb is a celestial construct torqued into a telestial sphere where natural men earn and / or administer “just deserts” according to the dictates of their own vain imaginations?

What if this proverb is only true in the hereafter for the unrepentant? Consider:
the meaning of the word restoration is to bring back again evil for evil, or carnal for carnal, or devilish for devilish—good for that which is good; righteous for that which is righteous; just for that which is just; merciful for that which is merciful. Therefore, my [children], see that you are merciful unto your brethren; deal justly, judge righteously, and do good continually; and if ye do all these things then shall ye receive your reward; yea, ye shall have mercy restored unto you again; ye shall have justice restored unto you again; ye shall have a righteous judgment restored unto you again; and ye shall have good rewarded unto you again. For that which ye do send out shall return unto you again, and be restored; therefore, the word restoration more fully condemneth the sinner, and justifieth him not at all.13
As for the repentant: Who of us can say we deserve what we shall be given through the mercy and grace of Jesus Christ? — the Master of gifts and giving.
20 I say unto you, my brethren, that if you should render all the thanks and praise which your whole soul has power to possess, to that God who has created you, and has kept and preserved you, and has caused that ye should rejoice, and has granted that ye should live in peace one with another—
21 I say unto you that if ye should serve him who has created you from the beginning, and is preserving you from day to day, by lending you breath, that ye may live and move and do according to your own will, and even supporting you from one moment to another—I say, if ye should serve him with all your whole souls yet ye would be unprofitable servants.
22 And behold, all that he requires of you is to keep his commandments; and he has promised you that if ye would keep his commandments ye should prosper in the land; and he never doth vary from that which he hath said; therefore, if ye do keep his commandments he doth bless you and prosper you.
23 And now, in the first place, he hath created you, and granted unto you your lives, for which ye are indebted unto him.
24 And secondly, he doth require that ye should do as he hath commanded you; for which if ye do, he doth immediately bless you; and therefore he hath paid you. And ye are still indebted unto him, and are, and will be, forever and ever; therefore, of what have ye to boast?
25 And now I ask, can ye say aught of yourselves? I answer you, Nay. Ye cannot say that ye are even as much as the dust of the earth; yet ye were created of the dust of the earth; but behold, it belongeth to him who created you.14
We have been warned more than once that “deserts” in this world are unlikely to conform to God's truth and justice?
Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.15

Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.16

If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.17

In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.18

And it came to pass that they took Alma and Amulek, and carried them forth to the place of martyrdom, that they might witness the destruction of those who were consumed by fire. CONflation?

Have you ever noticed:
▪ how so many people conduct tirades against socialism / communism1 all the while describing the crimes of corrupted banking cartels and corporations — those kingpins (twin pillars) of capitalism — and then finish up their tirade by shaking their fists at those ______ socialists without ever recognizing the untenable conflation?

▪ how most Christians seem strangely nonchalant about Babylon as the great nemesis of Zion (vis-à-vis socialism / communism) and how the descriptions of Babylon1 do not remotely describe socialism / communism?

▪ how susceptible many of us are to believing (hook, line, and sinker) the propaganda and outright lies of corporate power and money establishments — those prime beneficiaries of capitalist and fascist systems?

▪ how most Christians seem to think that God's economy is CAPITALISM and “FREE” markets, writ large, whereas scripture and prophecy describe God's economy2 as a gift economy where equity plays a leading role? E.g.:
That you may be equal in the bonds of heavenly things, yea, and earthly things also, for the obtaining of heavenly things. For if ye are not equal in earthly things ye cannot be equal in obtaining heavenly things; For if you will that I give unto you a place in the celestial world, you must prepare yourselves by doing the things which I have commanded you and required of you. (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 78:5-7)
▪ how many Christians seem to think that competition brings out the best in mankind and accounts for major advancements without ever pondering where our world would be if we had lived a philosophy of cooperation, of freely sharing gifts and ideas, of loving our neighbor as ourself?

▪ how much crime, corruption, mayhem, and murder has been justified by “democracy lovers” in the “American” fight against those ______ socialists / communists? (Read David Talbot's The Devil's Chessboard: Allen Dulles, the CIA, and the Rise of America's Secret Government.3)

▪ how the devil, as the primeval psychopath, has always:
» concealed his most dangerous and evil agendas behind facades and lesser enemies?
» used patsies to take the heat for accidental exposure?
» spun money to confuse, distract, corrupt, obfuscate, etc., etc., etc.?
» lied, lied, lied about everything to gain advantage or disrupt God's plan?
» always pointed the finger of blame at God4 and others?
» used promises of power and gain to seduce gullible men and women?
» stirred up contention, division, and war for power and massive profit?
» appealed to the worst in the natural man?
▪ how little we
» think for ourselves?
» support whistle-blowers and witnesses of “capital” crimes?5
» recognize of the innumerable deceptions6 the devil employs?
» understand Babylon as s/he was, is, and really will be?
» heed the dire warnings about secret combinations and conspiracies of those pursuing or protecting power and gain? etc.
▪ how unprepared we seem to speak up and act out against uncomfortable truths about favored leaders? substitute saviors? national agencies? false patriotism? our beloved economic system?

▪ how resistant to setting aside our political, racial, cultural, economic, social, and religious differences in support and defense of a remarkable Constitution?7

▪ how slow to join in a unified work to cleanse the ubiquitous (déjà vu) Gadiantons8 of these last days?
Would Jeremiah repeat himself in our day if he took up the task of trying to open our eyes to our most dangerous enemy?
Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not: (Old Testament | Jeremiah 5:21)

And that law of the land which is constitutional, supporting that principle of freedom in maintaining rights and privileges, belongs to all mankind, and is justifiable before me. I, the Lord God, make you free, therefore ye are free indeed; and the law also maketh you free. Nevertheless, when the wicked rule the people mourn. Without Conscience

Perhaps the greatest obstacle that believers / unbelievers have in accepting the mind-boggling horrors perpetrated by conspiracies and secret combinations1 is the incomprehensibility of humans living without conscience. Yet, it is now estimated that there are 4 in every 100 (1 in 25) who do so—many of whom are in positions of power and leadership.

For a flavor of what it means to live without conscience, you can read The Sociopath Next Door by Martha Stout, Ph.D.; or begin with this audio introduction:

at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFVrvoYTGu0 .

But the great tragedy is that there are 96 out of 100 who do have conscience, and yet our world is in desperate straits:
» toxic medicines, foods, air, and water;
» pervasive business, government, and science frauds and scams;
» state-sponsored or contracted torture and murder;
» violations of human and legal rights;
» perpetual wars;
» police brutality;
» genocides;
» oppression;
» and on and on.
BUT, why do those of conscience tolerate the machinations of those without conscience?

Here are some possible reasons why:
▪ failure to recognize psychopathic / sociopathic traits and behaviors;
▪ inability to accept that there are people without conscience (PWOC) despite the evidence;
▪ too much participation and pleasure in the “trickle-down” perks of money, power, fame, immunity, etc. with which PWOC often surround themselves;
▪ fear of exposure after violating one’s conscience or moral code at the persuasion / instigation of PWOC;
▪ threats, intimidation, blackmail;
▪ fear of what PWOC might resort to if they perceive themselves as “betrayed” or offended;
▪ difficulty in standing up to “authority” figures2 for many people with conscience (PWC);
▪ impressive favors and rewards accruing to PWOC by way of competitive capitalism;
▪ acceptance of aggressive self-interest in cultures that promote extreme individuality and bottom-line;
▪ “pity-me” (victim) ploys invoked by many PWOC to keep their game going;
▪ tendency of PWC to be trusting, courteous, forgiving, hopeful, etc.
▪ shaming, denigration, mockery, etc. of PWC;
▪ believing mind-boggling, massive lies and deceptions concocted and perpetrated by PWOC because, as Hitler, a classic person without conscience, wrote:
... the broad masses … more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. —Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, vol. I, ch. X (See also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_lie ).
And so, 4% of the population (along with a sizable portion of conned or corrupted PWC) have managed, with the above and other strategies, to exercise enough power, control, and deception to bring the entire world to the brink of disaster. (Most of us can’t even fathom how close!) So what can the remaining percentile of people with conscience do? Perhaps we can begin immediately and aggressively to act by:
▪ refusing any and all association or support of PWOC, including faux-persons (being many corporations);
▪ daring to question things and to speak up;
▪ continually demanding accountability, consequence, and responsibility for harms done;
▪ recognizing how immersed we are in the ways of Babylon (the archetypical fraternity of PWOC);
▪ supporting local small business for all needs;
▪ sourcing small business products as locally as possible;
▪ banking with local credit unions;
▪ sharing more and making do with less;
▪ living the gift-economy as much as possible;
▪ participating in reputable income-generating programs for suffering peoples;
▪ recommitting to personal moral values and integrity (no matter the cost);
▪ repenting of our failures and paying the consequences (no matter the cost) in order to be free of PWOC and their disciples.
Albert Einstein said:
The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.3
So, let us do whatever we can. If enough PWC can reject the ways of Babylon and of PWOC, perhaps we can, even in the midst of chaos, look confidently to the promise:
[L]et us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power; and then may we stand still, with the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed. (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 123:17)

2. See the Stanley Milgram experiment: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment . Despite some controversy, his findings have been replicated showing that as many as 63 % of people will act against conscience at the instigation of an authority figure.
3. As quoted in The Sociopath Next Door: The Ruthless Versus the Rest of Us by Martha Stout, p. 106.
Other relevant quotes from Stout’s book:
» ...life without conscience is deception and illusion (p. 91).
» What sociopaths want, what motivates them, is completely outside our experience (p. 96).
» The most reliable sign, the most universal behavior of unscrupulous people is not directed, as we might imagine, at our fearfulness. It is, perversely, an appeal to our sympathy (p. 107).
» ... American society seems to allow and even encourage me-first attitudes elevated to the pursuit of domination (p. 136).
» ... our culture, which informs them resoundingly that their ability to act guiltlessly on their own behalf is the ultimate advantage (p. 137).

God’s Economy ~ Is it possible?

In a world and culture captivated by the faux-polarity1 of Capitalism / Communism, what are one’s economic options?

from Office: Microsoft.com
 MC900299723
Our better natures seem to prefer giving the gift of self, time, and talent to improve the world. (See Daniel Pink’s, Drive: The Surprising Truth about What Motivates Us.) Thus, various forms of giving have arisen to satisfy man’s “yearning to do what we do in the service of something larger than ourselves.”

A few modern-day examples (of our better nature) are:
▪ Open-source software development
▪ Wikipedia contributors
▪ Free Apps by the tens of thousands
▪ YouTube sharing*
▪ Crowdfunding (like Kickstarter, Indiegogo, Crowdfunder, RocketHub, Crowdrise, Somolend, etc.)
▪ A plethora of other “sharing” websites*
▪ Voluntary communes such as Mondragón2
And THIS:3

A gift economy!! Is that the substance of Jesus’ teachings? Of the Zion way? A means to live in the world, but not of the world? A déjà vu from Enoch’s day?

Maybe there is no need for commune-living, or waiting upon authorities to lead the way, or wondering how to share what we love to do without “laboring for money.” Maybe we can actually begin to live Nephi’s advice:
… , the Lord God hath given a commandment that all men should have charity, which charity is love. And except they should have charity they were nothing. Wherefore, if they should have charity they would not suffer the laborer in Zion to perish. But the laborer in Zion shall labor for Zion; for if they labor for money they shall perish. (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 26:30-31)
Is this the way? where one by one, we take up the challenge to truly become One.

Added June 18, 2014: Here is a newsworthy example of “giving” from the CBC News Online of June 18, 2014: “Tesla's Elon Musk proves why patents are passé” as he becomes “the latest hero of the open source movement. ... Last week, Musk gave away all the patents on Tesla's electric car technology, allowing anyone — including competitors — to use them.” The comment was:
Musk's generosity has already offered evidence that sharing patents may be a good idea. Nissan and BMW have told enquiring reporters that they would like to take Musk up on his offer, especially when it comes to Tesla's "Supercharger" method for fast battery recharges.4
*NOTE to some YouTubers and other onliners: A gift can be given by the creator or owner of something. If we appropriate or upload a creative work that is not ours without permission, it is NOT a gift; it is theft (whatever the motivation or attempted justification).

What is our present corporate economic system, if not a type of Communism? 1) where HyPEs (Highly Paid Employees) manage the common assets/goods of shareholders for the supposed profit of those shareholders, but who in reality manage the common assets/goods and investments for HyPE profit and agenda; 2) where the elite prosper at the expense of “intended beneficiaries”; 3) where “competing” corporations circumvent supposed “free market” competition in every way imaginable; 4) where shareholders (except IPO shareholders) contribute NADA to the common venture, but who claim equal rights with IPOers to common gains; 5) where command & control is the order of the corporate day (each and every day); 6) where inalienable rights are deemed alienable (via mandatory contract); etc., etc.

God’s Economy: A Christmas Perspective

(Part One of a series)

Perhaps at this season of gifts and giving, we “religious” folk should take a serious 360° look at our preferred economic system. For disciples of capitalism,1 the writing has been on the wall since Cain. For devotees of planned economies (socialism / communism), the writing on the wall may have preceded Cain.

In any event, both systems have served the god of Master Mahan2 superbly well. If you don’t believe, look at the excesses (including the endless trivial) that glut our temples of commerce on the one hand and the scarcity and tragedies that haunt the environs of 3rd-world factories on the other. And that is just a 360 view of our “treasured” capitalism. The scarcities and tragedies of failed Communism were a little harder to conceal because the mountain of “goods” never materialized to obscure the truth behind the lies.

SO, if you think capitalism deserves all the credit for all the bounties that we “enjoy,” CONSIDER: What are the advancements and enlightenments we have forfeited3 because we have never been faithful, trusting, courageous, or charitable enough4 to live God’s economy—an economy of gifts, giving, and forgiving?

So what are some truths of God’s economy?5
▪ Every good thing is God’s and of God, including every breath we take.6
▪ There is enough and to spare.7
▪ Every soul has at least one specific gift to share with the world,8 plus the universal, though varying, gift of time.
▪ Gifts are not to be denied or ignored.9
▪ Gifts must be used and increased to warrant retaining them, but God gives the increase.10
▪ We are to ask for spiritual gifts we desire.11
▪ We are to petition God for our daily needs.12
▪ Gifts are not always linear as to effort or merit.13
▪ We are stewards of God’s gifts.14
▪ We are to give in wisdom and order: as we are able; as we are inspired.15
▪ We must learn to be equal in earthy things,16 which comes as we live the two great commandments.
▪ Good gifts to others are as gifts to God.17
▪ The principle of gift-giving permeates historical and latter-day commands.18
▪ Anonymous gifts are preferred.19
▪ Gifts can be corrupted and corrupting if not given and received with an eye single to the glory of God.20
▪ The idle (whether rich or poor) are not to take except through fair and consensual compensation, though all may receive gifts voluntarily given.21 The same applies to employers.
▪ Every soul is invited to partake freely of the gifts of God.22
▪ We are to extend the gift of forgiveness.23
▪ We are to continually thank God for our gifts.24
▪ We cannot give enough to get the upper hand with God.25
▪ It is more blessed to give than to receive;26 (thus, it is also blessed to receive).
▪ We are to give cheerfully, not grudgingly.27
▪ In order to have gifts to give, we must labour (i.e., give of our time, energies, talents, increase).28
▪ We are not to judge whether a person deserves a gift or whether they will use it wisely.29
▪ By living God’s economy and laws, we qualify, by virtue of the atonement, to be heirs (giftees) of all things.30
One of the great sermons on God’s economy was given by King Benjamin circa 124 BC.
16 And also, ye yourselves will succor those that stand in need of your succor; ye will administer of your substance unto him that standeth in need; and ye will not suffer that the beggar putteth up his petition to you in vain, and turn him out to perish.
17 Perhaps thou shalt say: The man has brought upon himself his misery; therefore I will stay my hand, and will not give unto him of my food, nor impart unto him of my substance that he may not suffer, for his punishments are just—
18 But I say unto you, O man, whosoever doeth this the same hath great cause to repent; and except he repenteth of that which he hath done he perisheth forever, and hath no interest in the kingdom of God.
19 For behold, are we not all beggars? Do we not all depend upon the same Being, even God, for all the substance which we have, for both food and raiment, and for gold, and for silver, and for all the riches which we have of every kind?
20 And behold, even at this time, ye have been calling on his name, and begging for a remission of your sins. And has he suffered that ye have begged in vain? Nay; he has poured out his Spirit upon you, and has caused that your hearts should be filled with joy, and has caused that your mouths should be stopped that ye could not find utterance, so exceedingly great was your joy.
21 And now, if God, who has created you, on whom you are dependent for your lives and for all that ye have and are, doth grant unto you whatsoever ye ask that is right, in faith, believing that ye shall receive, O then, how ye ought to impart of the substance that ye have one to another.
22 And if ye judge the man who putteth up his petition to you for your substance that he perish not, and condemn him, how much more just will be your condemnation for withholding your substance, which doth not belong to you but to God, to whom also your life belongeth; and yet ye put up no petition, nor repent of the thing which thou hast done.
23 I say unto you, wo be unto that man, for his substance shall perish with him; and now, I say these things unto those who are rich as pertaining to the things of this world.
24 And again, I say unto the poor, ye who have not and yet have sufficient, that ye remain from day to day; I mean all you who deny the beggar, because ye have not; I would that ye say in your hearts that: I give not because I have not, but if I had I would give. (Book of Mormon Mosiah 4:16-24)
Is living God’s economy practical in our present world? Perhaps not. Is it rational? Not really. It’s like Jesus and His life and death. It’s transrational. And transrational in this world is to live in faith, hope, charity, and obedience because God has said:
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Old Testament Isaiah 55:8-9)
That’s the gist of it. We develop our gifts. We share our gifts. We help others develop and share theirs. We consecrate our all to God and His wisdom and purposes. We give anonymously to overcome the disposition to pride and corruption.

The good news is that not one of us is prevented from living, desiring to live, or beginning to live the economy of God (or elements thereof) even in the midst of Babylon and her carnivals of deception and excess.

In short: if we lived God’s economy of “gifts, giving, and forgiving,” there would be no poor among us, every person would be free to develop and use his/her gifts, and we wouldn’t be stuck in “The [tragic, obscene, pathetic, despicable] World As It Is” described by Chris Hedges and others. We wouldn’t be competing for power, privilege, wealth, popularity, land, or fame. We would be cooperating for that which would maximize the good, the true, and the beautiful.

~~~~~~~~~
This post only begins to scratch the surface of God’s economy. In coming weeks, there will be additional posts dealing with:
▪ a (partial) history of giving;
▪ what God requires of us;
▪ ways to begin living God’s economy in the midst of Babylon;
▪ (and perhaps others).
1. And by this, we mean corporate, corrupted capitalism with all its bottom-line, competitive, and corrupt justifications. This is not to say that nothing good has come from capitalism, but it is to say that nothing "achieved" through capitalism could not have been achieved through cooperation and collaboration sooner and further without the awful costs. For more of this writer's thoughts on capitalism and competing economic systems, see: http://www.dejavu-times.blogspot.ca/search/label/Corporatism ; http://dejavu-timestwo.blogspot.ca/search/label/Economics .
2. Pearl of Great Price Moses 5:31 ~ And Cain said: Truly I am Mahan, the master of this great secret, that I may murder and get gain. Wherefore Cain was called Master Mahan, and he gloried in his wickedness.
3. As in the myriad gifts buried in migrant fields, slave plantations / camps, sweatshops, shanty towns, ghettos, soulless jobs, bars, casinos, and the like; or the gifts sacrificed in pursuit of power, prestige, privilege, wealth, appearance, popularity, and so forth; or the gifts bought up and “disappeared” in the economics of competition and bottom-line.
Old Testament 1 Chronicles 29:14 ~ ... for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.
Old Testament Job 12:9-10 ~ Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.
Old Testament Ecclesiastes 3:13 ~ And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.
Old Testament Ecclesiastes 5:19 ~ Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.
Old Testament Isaiah 42:5 ~ Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
New Testament Acts 17:24-25 ~ God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
New Testament 2 Peter 1:3 ~ According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
Book of Mormon Mosiah 2:21 ~ I say unto you that if ye should serve him who has created you from the beginning, and is preserving you from day to day, by lending you breath, that ye may live and move and do according to your own will, and even supporting you from one moment to another—I say, if ye should serve him with all your whole souls yet ye would be unprofitable servants.
Book of Mormon Moroni 7:16 ~ For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God.
New Testament Romans 14:8 ~ For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. (See also Old Testament Daniel 5:23; Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 9:26)
7. Doctrine and Covenants Section 104:17-18 ~ For the earth is full, and there is enough and to spare; yea, I prepared all things, and have given unto the children of men to be agents unto themselves. Therefore, if any man shall take of the abundance which I have made, and impart not his portion, according to the law of my gospel, unto the poor and the needy, he shall, with the wicked, lift up his eyes in hell, being in torment.
New Testament Romans 8:32 ~ He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
8. New Testament 1 Corinthians 7:7 ~ For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
Doctrine and Covenants Section 46:11-12 ~ For all have not every gift given unto them; for there are many gifts, and to every man is given a gift by the Spirit of God. To some is given one, and to some is given another, that all may be profited thereby.
9. New Testament 1 Timothy 4:14 ~ Neglect not the gift that is in thee, ...
Book of Mormon Moroni 10:8 ~ And again, I exhort you, my brethren, that ye deny not the gifts of God, for they are many; and they come from the same God. And there are different ways that these gifts are administered; but it is the same God who worketh all in all; and they are given by the manifestations of the Spirit of God unto men, to profit them.
Book of Mormon 3 Nephi 29:6 ~ Yea, wo unto him that shall deny the revelations of the Lord, and that shall say the Lord no longer worketh by revelation, or by prophecy, or by gifts, or by tongues, or by healings, or by the power of the Holy Ghost!
10. See the parable of the talents: New Testament Matthew 25:14-30; Book of Mormon Ether 12:25; Doctrine and Covenants 82:18.
New Testament 1 Corinthians 3:6-9 ~ I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
11. Doctrine and Covenants Section 46:8-12 ~ ... seek ye earnestly the best gifts, always remembering for what they are given; For verily I say unto you, they are given for the benefit of those who love me and keep all my commandments, and him that seeketh so to do; that all may be benefited that seek or that ask of me, that ask and not for a sign that they may consume it upon their lusts. And again, verily I say unto you, I would that ye should always remember, and always retain in your minds what those gifts are, that are given unto the church. For all have not every gift given unto them; for there are many gifts, and to every man is given a gift by the Spirit of God. To some is given one, and to some is given another, that all may be profited thereby.
Book of Mormon 3 Nephi 27:29 ~ Therefore, ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you; for he that asketh, receiveth; and unto him that knocketh, it shall be opened.
Book of Mormon Alma 7:23 ~ And now I would that ye should be humble, and be submissive and gentle; easy to be entreated; full of patience and long-suffering; being temperate in all things; being diligent in keeping the commandments of God at all times; asking for whatsoever things ye stand in need, both spiritual and temporal; always returning thanks unto God for whatsoever things ye do receive.
13. New Testament Matthew 5:44-45 ~ But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Old Testament Deuteronomy 6:10-11 ~ And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not, And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;
Old Testament Joshua 24:13 ~ And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.
Old Testament Psalms 105:44 ~ And gave them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited the labour of the people;
Book of Mormon Mosiah 2:20-21 ~ I say unto you, my brethren, that if you should render all the thanks and praise which your whole soul has power to possess, to that God who has created you, and has kept and preserved you, and has caused that ye should rejoice, and has granted that ye should live in peace one with another— I say unto you that if ye should serve him who has created you from the beginning, and is preserving you from day to day, by lending you breath, that ye may live and move and do according to your own will, and even supporting you from one moment to another—I say, if ye should serve him with all your whole souls yet ye would be unprofitable servants.
Book of Mormon Mosiah 4:11 ~ And again I say unto you as I have said before, that as ye have come to the knowledge of the glory of God, or if ye have known of his goodness and have tasted of his love, and have received a remission of your sins, which causeth such exceedingly great joy in your souls, even so I would that ye should remember, and always retain in remembrance, the greatness of God, and your own nothingness, and his goodness and long-suffering towards you, unworthy creatures, and humble yourselves even in the depths of humility, calling on the name of the Lord daily, and standing steadfastly in the faith of that which is to come, which was spoken by the mouth of the angel.
New Testament John 4:36-38 ~ And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.
Also consider Manna, Quail, working poor, idle rich, family ties, etc.
14. New Testament Romans 14:12 ~ So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
And see that all these things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength. And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore, all things must be done in order.
Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
Doctrine and Covenants Section 42:38 ~ For inasmuch as ye do it unto the least of these, ye do it unto me.
18. Might it be possible that a prime purpose of all those centuries of burnt, wave, heave, peace and other offerings and tithes were to keep people in the spirit of giving? And what about the year of release (i.e. debt forgiveness) as in Old Testament Deuteronomy 15:7-11 ~ If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother: But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth. Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee. Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto. For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.
