Heads Up to God’s Solar / Lunar Festival Calendar?

Waxing Crescent Moon
* Image info &
source below footnotes

Considering these words:
14 ¶ And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: (Old Testament | Genesis 1:14; bold emphasis added);
should we be paying more attention to God’s “sky calendar”? How much awareness do we give to the mechanics of the sun and the moon in determining Biblical festivals / feasts, appointed days, and prophetic signs and seasons, or do we just trust in “authorities” who make (or change) calendars. In Leviticus 23 and Exodus 12, God gave all Twelve Tribes of Israel directions to inaugurate feasts and days of anticipatory prophetic events. For many, the Spring feasts of Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, and Feast of Weeks (Pentecost) were all fulfilled in the first coming of Christ and therefore, the subject now of commemoration and thanksgiving, but that the Fall feasts remain anticipatory recognitions of a Second Coming.

Despite understanding this in part, I have been distracted over past months from paying attention to the celestial “sky calendar” until this past week when I encountered an almost 3-year old series of vlogs that seem enlightening and timely.

So once again, I take up the desire to understand how it all works. My personal preference is for even numbers: no quarter days that require a February leap day every four years or so; no annual 11 day shortage between the solar year (365.25 days) and the lunar year (circa 354 days) that requires a thirteenth lunar month every two or three years to realign the two cycles — a thirteenth lunar month that most of us aren’t even aware of because it just happens as part of God’s design; and also unaware because our solar, Gregorian calendar pays no attention to the moon or its first waxing crescent that marks when each of God’s calendar months begin. Enoch’s alleged calendar of four 91-day seasons1 (364 days) that repeat (on paper) with exactness seems so perfect, but for some good reason God’s “sky calendar” has fractions and shortages (like the monthly, lunar, waning / waxing cycle of 29.53 days) that requires regular adjustment to keep assigned days, festivals, and seasons from wandering through every month of the year. And what can we make of the Metronic cycle2 of 19 years that the moon repeats?

I have yet so much to observe and learn, so I just give a brief intro to some principles that pod-caster Lani Finley of Grace and Truth Ministries shares:
▪ God’s Solar Year begins on the Vernal Equinox and ends at the next Vernal Equinox;
▪ God’s Lunar Festival Year begins on the first of Abib (Nisan) and ends at the next first day of Abib;
▪ The first day of Abib (being the beginning of the lunar year and first Festival month) is determined by observing the first waxing crescent moon that always appears in the west just after sunset on or after the Vernal Equinox;
▪ God’s day begins at sundown [disputed by some but adhered to be Mr. Finley];
▪ The Vernal Equinox marks the beginning of the spring season which may or may not coincide with the first day of Abib / Nisan;
▪ Every two or three years, the celestial mechanics gives the world a thirteenth lunar month to reconcile its normal 354.36 day lunar year with the sun’s 365.25 day year.
I may not understand or agree with all of Mr. Finley’s insights, but his research, in my opinion,  merits further study in the spirit of the Bereans.3

The Metonic cycle or enneadecaeteris (from Ancient Greek: ἐννεακαιδεκαετηρίς, from ἐννεακαίδεκα, "nineteen") is a period of almost exactly 19 years after which the lunar phases recur at the same time of the year. The recurrence is not perfect, and by precise observation the Metonic cycle defined as 235 ;synodic months is just 2 hours, 4 minutes and 58 seconds longer than 19 tropical years. Meton of Athens, in the 5th century BC, judged the cycle to be a whole number of days, 6,940.[3] Using these whole numbers facilitates the construction of a lunisolar calendar. A tropical year (about 365.24 days) is longer than 12 lunar months (about 354.36 days) and shorter than 13 of them (about 383.90 days). In a Metonic calendar (a type of lunisolar calendar), there are twelve years of 12 lunar months and seven years of 13 lunar months.
3. New Testament | Acts 17:11
11 These [people of Berea] were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word [delivered by Paul and Silas] with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Patterns and Pathologies*

Do we have a sufficient knowledge of history, countries, and kingdoms1 in order to discern the repeating patterns and pathologies of the thief who, in every age, “cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy”2?

How many unread exposés do we have on library shelves or e-readers that unmask the thief and his servitors? How many truths cast into the black hole of “conspiracy theory”? How many ubiquitous nefarious distractions so we do not awaken, as commanded, to those patterns and pathologies?
24 Wherefore, the Lord commandeth you, when ye shall see these things [murderous combinations] come among you that ye shall awake to a sense of your awful situation, because of this secret combination which shall be among you; or wo be unto it, because of the blood of them who have been slain; for they cry from the dust for vengeance upon it, and also upon those who built it up (Book of Mormon | Ether 8:24).
As it presently stands, with each new exposé, we have (as the conspirators allege) “a tale told by an idiot, signifying nothing of import”; but what if we linked ten exposés together? or one-hundred? or more? Do we know where to find them, scattered, as they are, over time and space? Do we have the time to digest them even if we could gather them?

Well, maybe there is a space. Maybe many single exposés are already woven into a phalanx of exposés. Maybe even time and space have already been distilled for rapid access. Maybe this place is
The Duke Report.
Peter Duke is not part of our faith community, but his life experiences have prepared him to see and hear the agendas and patterns in history that so many do not see or refuse to see; and with his other gifts, he has created an exceptional site of exposure and insight condensed for maximum accessibility. One does not need to agree with everything another believes or shares, but single threads of exposure and truth can weave into powerful cables; and since it appears now (to many watchers) that the Constitution is almost hanging by a (disputed3) thread, maybe we would be well advised to know and help unify the many threads of truth about the thief and his servitors.

As always, we seek to use discernment and critical thinking as Paul advises:
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
      (New Testament | 1 Thessalonians 5:21)
And may we earnestly seek to get past any biases and hard priors4 that deny the reality and prevalence of the natural man.5

These observations are from the work of political scientist Hank Jenkins-Smith of the University of Oklahoma as quoted, in Newsweek, October 13, 2010, pp. 29-30 by science writer Sharon Begley about voter tendencies—observations that seem applicable to almost everything that requires choice or discernment. We all do it, (even this writer) and without awareness of a “priors” bias, are we not all more prone to biased judgment—whether pro or con? Shouldn’t 360° honesty in dealing with all the facts help control that bias?

Time to Board the ARC*?

ARC logo

(*Alliance for Responsible Citizenship)
“The ARC of the moral universe is long
but it bends toward justice”

Could ARC prove an essential antidote to WO and WEF?

We may not agree with everything said at the first ARC conference or with every person who was invited or named as ARC advocates or as members of the advisory board, but finally, we have a group who seems prepared to vigorously stand for Responsible Citizenship and to defend values that have stood the test of time. And time will tell whether this highly influential group will end up for the good or for the bad, but as more prophetic voices (both seeming and real) arise in the world, the need for discernment increases.

If ARC is a key puzzle piece to the end-times, let us pray its founders (Jordan B. Peterson & colleagues) can discern the Judases that inevitably attach themselves to or seek to infiltrate every Good.

Let us pay attention to ARC because in the end-time testing, our assumptions and biases about our own faith may need this Shakespearean reminder:
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

    - Hamlet (1.5.167-8), Hamlet to Horatio.
There were many worthy speeches presented at ARC, but here are Peterson’s opening and closing remarks. (Note: If Biblical Isaiah can go naked and barefoot for three years as a sign of things to come,1 perhaps JBP can feel motivated to wear a divided suit?)

A Troubling Trend?

Church and State?
Belief Narratives and State?
Recently, I have been encountering more opinions and even adamant declarations that the decline of moral values in our 21st Century culture can be laid at the feet of the separation of church and state.1 One presenter, who shares my Church affiliation, goes so far as to allege that the separation of church and state was proposed millennia ago by a church dissenter named Nehor, circa 90s BC in the ancient Americas.2 Thus, by extension, it must follow that support for the separation of church and state would be to align with the “doctrine” of Nehor; but what was the “doctrine” of Nehor?

As background, Nehor had just witnessed a major governmental “reset” from a monarchy to a judges' system.3 The voice of the people had chosen Alma2, as their first chief judge who happened also to be the high priest of the Church4; but it is important to note that there was already a partial separation of church and state under the monarchical Nephite system. Before the reset, king Mosiah2 governed the civic affairs and Alma1 the church affairs. One evidence was when king Mosiah2 was asked to weigh-in on a religious discipline issue and he declined, referring the matter back to Alma1, the high priest.5

During his reign, king Mosiah2 seems to have understood that separation from organized religion (church) did not mean separation from God. His and his father's speeches (the prior king Benjamin) were full of Godly advice and counsel, but were without coercion of conscience or faith. We also find this freedom of conscience concept expressed again when Alma2 (appointed high priest by his father Alma1) was dealing with the anti-Christ Korihor, in that:
“[T]here was no law against a man's belief; for it was strictly contrary to the commands of God that there should be a law which should bring men on to unequal grounds. ... Now if a man desired to serve God, it was his privilege; or rather, if he believed in God it was his privilege to serve him; but if he did not believe in him there was no law to punish him.”6
Discerning the Nephite separation of church and state is not easy because the voice of the people seems to have frequently elected their chief judge and lower judges (their civic authorities) from amongst their spiritual leaders; but both believers and non-believers were under strict civic and spiritual law not to persecute one another.7

But back to Nehor. As I read the account, Nehor was not pushing for the removal of Alma2 in order to achieve separation of church and state, but rather, Nehor, who was preaching his own beliefs and setting up his own church system,8 proposed that the voice of the people not only elect the judges, but the priests and teachers also (apparently, instead of receiving their calling or appointment through God's direction via His presiding priest.9)

For the power-hungry, this new “judges-system” opened up opportunities that had been closed in the monarchic system. What can we imagine was in Nehor's mind? He wasn't even in power and was already oppressing those who didn't accept his beliefs. He was following the pattern of tyrants: pursuing domination of the masses — of thought, belief, action, opportunity, and so forth. History informs us that Lucifer's Utopia10 demands the combining of church and state to achieve his obsession for full-spectrum domination, so, in my view, Nehor was pursuing the full conjoining of church and state, not the separation.

Conformity and uniformity have always been the drive of tyrannical regimes or agendas. Remember Nebuchadnezzar and his idol? Constantine? the crusades? the Christian martyrs? the innumerable martyrs of other faiths and ages? Not so long ago, the separation of church and state was considered one of the remarkable achievements of the North American experiment and resultant Constitution? But now! in this created chaos? this mocking of democracy11? are the tired and weary desiring a (fantisized) restoration of peace, order, and sanity through a return to unifying church and state?

Have we forgotten the prime motivating factor that drove so many Pilgrims, Puritans, Quakers, and other persecuted minorities to the Americas? For centuries, Europe had endured the tortuous combining of church and state; and even in the early Americas, the persecuted, too often, became persecutors as they sought to enforce their own religious dogmas using “state” (civic) power. Have we forgotten the European inquisitions? Fox's Book of Martyrs? A History of the Inquisition of the Middle Ages (Complete - Volume 1, 2 and 3 by Henry Charles Lea)? the life and times of Roger Williams? to name a few records.

Perhaps, part of the confusion of church and state relationship is the conflation of moral compass with religion or with church organization. Moral compass is not the prerogative of church or religion, but is above both church and state and must guide them both in their separate spheres — with church (an organized collective holding common beliefs) devoting itself to instruction, persuasion, comfort, and compassion. The church has no coercive power against life, liberty, or property. The state may, in limited circumstances, have coercive powers upon principles of judgment and justice as detailed in these D&C sections12 which hold sacrosanct freedom of conscience.

And what do we think Joseph Smith advocated here:
11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may (Pearl of Great Price | Articles of Faith 1:11).
In these last days, we should be on high alert when the powers (that believe in build-back-better toward a new World Order — WO) scale-up their demands for unifying ecumenism, sovereignty-sacrificing treaties, elite-expertise, order-out-of-chaos, global governance, and so forth — all for the alleged good of humanity. In the end, WO requires unifying conformity to political and pscience13 narratives (beliefs, convictions, dogmas) backed by the power of a global “state.”

So, is this a troubling trend — to question the separation of church and state? One of the articulate writers on this subject of separation was Alonzo T. Jones (1850-1923).14 If one wants to get a head start on understanding the realities of historical and future conjunction, his writings are a good place to begin.

In reality, the state religion of domination is already well in play.

3. From Monarchy to judges-system:
Book of Mormon | Mosiah 29:25-42
25 Therefore, choose you by the voice of this people, judges, that ye may be judged according to the laws which have been given you by our fathers, which are correct, and which were given them by the hand of the Lord.
26 Now it is not common that the voice of the people desireth anything contrary to that which is right; but it is common for the lesser part of the people to desire that which is not right; therefore this shall ye observe and make it your law—to do your business by the voice of the people.
27 And if the time comes that the voice of the people doth choose iniquity, then is the time that the judgments of God will come upon you; yea, then is the time he will visit you with great destruction even as he has hitherto visited this land.
28 And now if ye have judges, and they do not judge you according to the law which has been given, ye can cause that they may be judged of a higher judge.
29 If your higher judges do not judge righteous judgments, ye shall cause that a small number of your lower judges should be gathered together, and they shall judge your higher judges, according to the voice of the people.
30 And I command you to do these things in the fear of the Lord; and I command you to do these things, and that ye have no king; that if these people commit sins and iniquities they shall be answered upon their own heads.
31 For behold I say unto you, the sins of many people have been caused by the iniquities of their kings; therefore their iniquities are answered upon the heads of their kings.
32 And now I desire that this inequality should be no more in this land, especially among this my people; but I desire that this land be a land of liberty, and every man may enjoy his rights and privileges alike, so long as the Lord sees fit that we may live and inherit the land, yea, even as long as any of our posterity remains upon the face of the land.
33 And many more things did king Mosiah write unto them, unfolding unto them all the trials and troubles of a righteous king, yea, all the travails of soul for their people, and also all the murmurings of the people to their king; and he explained it all unto them.
34 And he told them that these things ought not to be; but that the burden should come upon all the people, that every man might bear his part.
   35 And he also unfolded unto them all the disadvantages they labored under, by having an unrighteous king to rule over them;
36 Yea, all his iniquities and abominations, and all the wars, and contentions, and bloodshed, and the stealing, and the plundering, and the committing of whoredoms, and all manner of iniquities which cannot be enumerated—telling them that these things ought not to be, that they were expressly repugnant to the commandments of God.
37 And now it came to pass, after king Mosiah had sent these things forth among the people they were convinced of the truth of his words.
38 Therefore they relinquished their desires for a king, and became exceedingly anxious that every man should have an equal chance throughout all the land; yea, and every man expressed a willingness to answer for his own sins.
39 Therefore, it came to pass that they assembled themselves together in bodies throughout the land, to cast in their voices concerning who should be their judges, to judge them according to the law which had been given them; and they were exceedingly rejoiced because of the liberty which had been granted unto them.
40 And they did wax strong in love towards Mosiah; yea, they did esteem him more than any other man; for they did not look upon him as a tyrant who was seeking for gain, yea, for that lucre which doth corrupt the soul; for he had not exacted riches of them, neither had he delighted in the shedding of blood; but he had established peace in the land, and he had granted unto his people that they should be delivered from all manner of bondage; therefore they did esteem him, yea, exceedingly, beyond measure.
41 And it came to pass that they did appoint judges to rule over them, or to judge them according to the law; and this they did throughout all the land.
42 And it came to pass that Alma was appointed to be the first chief judge, he being also the high priest, his father having conferred the office upon him, and having given him the charge concerning all the affairs of the church.
4. Book of Mormon | Mosiah 29:39-43
43 And now it came to pass that Alma did walk in the ways of the Lord, and he did keep his commandments, and he did judge righteous judgments; and there was continual peace through the land.
5. Mosiah refuses to judge a church matter:
Book of Mormon | Mosiah 26:8-39
8 Now king Mosiah had given Alma the authority over the church. [See * below v. 39]
9 And it came to pass that Alma did not know concerning them; but there were many witnesses against them; yea, the people stood and testified of their iniquity in abundance.
10 Now there had not any such thing happened before in the church; therefore Alma was troubled in his spirit, and he caused that they should be brought before the king.
11 And he said unto the king: Behold, here are many whom we have brought before thee, who are accused of their brethren; yea, and they have been taken in divers iniquities. And they do not repent of their iniquities; therefore we have brought them before thee, that thou mayest judge them according to their crimes.
12 But king Mosiah said unto Alma: Behold, I judge them not; therefore I deliver them into thy hands to be judged.
13 And now the spirit of Alma was again troubled; and he went and inquired of the Lord what he should do concerning this matter, for he feared that he should do wrong in the sight of God.
14 And it came to pass that after he had poured out his whole soul to God, the voice of the Lord came to him, saying:
15 Blessed art thou, Alma, and blessed are they who were baptized in the waters of Mormon. Thou art blessed because of thy exceeding faith in the words alone of my servant Abinadi.
16 And blessed are they because of their exceeding faith in the words alone which thou hast spoken unto them.
17 And blessed art thou because thou hast established a church among this people; and they shall be established, and they shall be my people.
18 Yea, blessed is this people who are willing to bear my name; for in my name shall they be called; and they are mine.
19 And because thou hast inquired of me concerning the transgressor, thou art blessed.
20 Thou art my servant; and I covenant with thee that thou shalt have eternal life; and thou shalt serve me and go forth in my name, and shalt gather together my sheep.
21 And he that will hear my voice shall be my sheep; and him shall ye receive into the church, and him will I also receive.
22 For behold, this is my church; whosoever is baptized shall be baptized unto repentance. And whomsoever ye receive shall believe in my name; and him will I freely forgive.
23 For it is I that taketh upon me the sins of the world; for it is I that hath created them; and it is I that granteth unto him that believeth unto the end a place at my right hand.
24 For behold, in my name are they called; and if they know me they shall come forth, and shall have a place eternally at my right hand.
25 And it shall come to pass that when the second trump shall sound then shall they that never knew me come forth and shall stand before me.
26 And then shall they know that I am the Lord their God, that I am their Redeemer; but they would not be redeemed.
27 And then I will confess unto them that I never knew them; and they shall depart into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
28 Therefore I say unto you, that he that will not hear my voice, the same shall ye not receive into my church, for him I will not receive at the last day.
29 Therefore I say unto you, Go; and whosoever transgresseth against me, him shall ye judge according to the sins which he has committed; and if he confess his sins before thee and me, and repenteth in the sincerity of his heart, him shall ye forgive, and I will forgive him also.
30 Yea, and as often as my people repent will I forgive them their trespasses against me.
31 And ye shall also forgive one another your trespasses; for verily I say unto you, he that forgiveth not his neighbor's trespasses when he says that he repents, the same hath brought himself under condemnation.
32 Now I say unto you, Go; and whosoever will not repent of his sins the same shall not be numbered among my people; and this shall be observed from this time forward.
33 And it came to pass when Alma had heard these words he wrote them down that he might have them, and that he might judge the people of that church according to the commandments of God.
34 And it came to pass that Alma went and judged those that had been taken in iniquity, according to the word of the Lord.
   35 And whosoever repented of their sins and did confess them, them he did number among the people of the church;
36 And those that would not confess their sins and repent of their iniquity, the same were not numbered among the people of the church, and their names were blotted out.
37 And it came to pass that Alma did regulate all the affairs of the church; and they began again to have peace and to prosper exceedingly in the affairs of the church, walking circumspectly before God, receiving many, and baptizing many.
38 And now all these things did Alma and his fellow laborers do who were over the church, walking in all diligence, teaching the word of God in all things, suffering all manner of afflictions, being persecuted by all those who did not belong to the church of God.
39 And they did admonish their brethren; and they were also admonished, every one by the word of God, according to his sins, or to the sins which he had committed, being commanded of God to pray without ceasing, and to give thanks in all things.
[* Mosiah2 was king when Alma1 brought his small group of people (who were escaping persecution and oppression) into the jurisdiction of king Mosiah. As a new comer, Alma was given authorization from the king to continue his spiritual leadership in the realm of king Mosiah. See Mosiah chpt. 25]
6. Korihor: Book of Mormon | Alma 30:6-17
6 But it came to pass in the latter end of the seventeenth year, there came a man into the land of Zarahemla, and he was Anti–Christ, for he began to preach unto the people against the prophecies which had been spoken by the prophets, concerning the coming of Christ.
7 Now there was no law against a man's belief; for it was strictly contrary to the commands of God that there should be a law which should bring men on to unequal grounds.
8 For thus saith the scripture: Choose ye this day, whom ye will serve.
9 Now if a man desired to serve God, it was his privilege; or rather, if he believed in God it was his privilege to serve him; but if he did not believe in him there was no law to punish him.
10 But if he murdered he was punished unto death; and if he robbed he was also punished; and if he stole he was also punished; and if he committed adultery he was also punished; yea, for all this wickedness they were punished.
11 For there was a law that men should be judged according to their crimes. Nevertheless, there was no law against a man's belief; therefore, a man was punished only for the crimes which he had done; therefore all men were on equal grounds.
12 And this Anti–Christ, whose name was Korihor, (and the law could have no hold upon him) began to preach unto the people that there should be no Christ. And after this manner did he preach, saying:
13 O ye that are bound down under a foolish and a vain hope, why do ye yoke yourselves with such foolish things? Why do ye look for a Christ? For no man can know of anything which is to come.
14 Behold, these things which ye call prophecies, which ye say are handed down by holy prophets, behold, they are foolish traditions of your fathers.
15 How do ye know of their surety? Behold, ye cannot know of things which ye do not see; therefore ye cannot know that there shall be a Christ.
16 Ye look forward and say that ye see a remission of your sins. But behold, it is the effect of a frenzied mind; and this derangement of your minds comes because of the traditions of your fathers, which lead you away into a belief of things which are not so.
17 And many more such things did he say unto them, telling them that there could be no atonement made for the sins of men, but every man fared in this life according to the management of the creature; therefore every man prospered according to his genius, and that every man conquered according to his strength; and whatsoever a man did was no crime.
Note: At this time (year seventeen of the reign of the judges), Alma[2] was no longer serving as chief judge / governor; see Alma 30: 29, 51.
7. Book of Mormon | Mosiah 27:1-6 (Entails both a civic and a spiritual matter)
1 AND now it came to pass that the persecutions which were inflicted on the church by the unbelievers became so great that the church began to murmur, and complain to their leaders concerning the matter; and they did complain to Alma. And Alma laid the case before their king, Mosiah. And Mosiah consulted with his priests.
2 And it came to pass that king Mosiah sent a proclamation throughout the land round about that there should not any unbeliever persecute any of those who belonged to the church of God.
   3 And there was a strict command throughout all the churches that there should be no persecutions among them, that there should be an equality among all men;
4 That they should let no pride nor haughtiness disturb their peace; that every man should esteem his neighbor as himself, laboring with their own hands for their support.
5 Yea, and all their priests and teachers should labor with their own hands for their support, in all cases save it were in sickness, or in much want; and doing these things, they did abound in the grace of God.
   6 And there began to be much peace again in the land;
Book of Mormon | Alma 1:21
21 Now there was a strict law among the people of the church, that there should not any man, belonging to the church, arise and persecute those that did not belong to the church, and that there should be no persecution among themselves.
8. Book of Mormon | Alma 1:1-6
2 And it came to pass that in the first year of the reign of Alma in the judgment–seat, there was a man brought before him to be judged, a man who was large, and was noted for his much strength.
3 And he had gone about among the people, preaching to them that which he termed to be the word of God, bearing down against the church; declaring unto the people that every priest and teacher ought to become popular; and they ought not to labor with their hands, but that they ought to be supported by the people.
4 And he also testified unto the people that all mankind should be saved at the last day, and that they need not fear nor tremble, but that they might lift up their heads and rejoice; for the Lord had created all men, and had also redeemed all men; and, in the end, all men should have eternal life.
5 And it came to pass that he did teach these things so much that many did believe on his words, even so many that they began to support him and give him money.
6 And he began to be lifted up in the pride of his heart, and to wear very costly apparel, yea, and even began to establish a church after the manner of his preaching.
9. Book of Mormon | Mosiah 23:16-17
16 And now, Alma[1] was their high priest, he being the founder of their church.
17 And it came to pass that none received authority to preach or to teach except it were by him from God. Therefore he consecrated all their priests and all their teachers; and none were consecrated except they were just men.
Book of Mormon | Alma 4:4, 7
4 And they began to establish the church more fully; yea, and many were baptized in the waters of Sidon and were joined to the church of God; yea, they were baptized by the hand of Alma[2], who had been consecrated the high priest over the people of the church, by the hand of his father Alma[1]. ...
7 Now this [pride and rebellion that soon began among the people] was the cause of much affliction to Alma, yea, and to many of the people whom Alma had consecrated to be teachers, and priests, and elders over the church; yea, many of them were sorely grieved for the wickedness which they saw had begun to be among their people.

76 And again I say unto you, those who have been scattered by their enemies, it is my will that they should continue to importune for redress, and redemption, by the hands of those who are placed as rulers and are in authority over you—
   77 According to the laws and constitution of the people, which I have suffered to be established, and should be maintained for the rights and protection of all flesh, according to just and holy prin   ciples;
78 That every man may act in doctrine and principle pertaining to futurity, according to the moral
agency which I have given unto him, that every man may be accountable for his own sins in the day of judgment.
79 Therefore, it is not right that any man should be in bondage one to another.
80 And for this purpose have I established the Constitution of this land, by the hands of wise men whom I raised up unto this very purpose, and redeemed the land by the shedding of blood.
13. Pscience is the corrupted offshoot of honorable Science. It is the inevitable consequence of man's obsessive pursuit and protection of power, gain, glory, and domination. Pscience is pseudo, psychopathic, propagandizing, plagiarizing, politicized, psy-opic, and above all, profit-obsessed, and profit-driven. This obsessive pursuit and protection by people without conscience is often enabled by naïve, trusting, or fear-filled acolytes. Pscience is a one-faith, one-dogma, heretic-fearing, self-deceiving, other-censoring system.

Other Book of Mormon text on church and state:
Book of Mormon | Mosiah 11:1-5
1 AND now it came to pass that Zeniff conferred the kingdom upon Noah, one of his sons; therefore Noah began to reign in his stead; and he did not walk in the ways of his father.
2 For behold, he did not keep the commandments of God, but he did walk after the desires of his own heart. And he had many wives and concubines. And he did cause his people to commit sin, and do that which was abominable in the sight of the Lord. Yea, and they did commit whoredoms and all manner of wickedness.
3 And he laid a tax of one fifth part of all they possessed, a fifth part of their gold and of their silver, and a fifth part of their ziff, and of their copper, and of their brass and their iron; and a fifth part of their fatlings; and also a fifth part of all their grain.
4 And all this did he take to support himself, and his wives and his concubines; and also his priests, and their wives and their concubines; thus he had changed the affairs of the kingdom.
5 For he put down all the priests that had been consecrated by his father, and consecrated new ones in their stead, such as were lifted up in the pride of their hearts.
Book of Mormon | Mosiah 23:12-18
12 And now I say unto you, ye have been oppressed by king Noah, and have been in bondage to him and his priests, and have been brought into iniquity by them; therefore ye were bound with the bands of iniquity.
13 And now as ye have been delivered by the power of God out of these bonds; yea, even out of the hands of king Noah and his people, and also from the bonds of iniquity, even so I desire that ye should stand fast in this liberty wherewith ye have been made free, and that ye trust no man to be a king over you.
14 And also trust no one to be your teacher nor your minister, except he be a man of God, walking in his ways and keeping his commandments.
15 Thus did Alma teach his people, that every man should love his neighbor as himself, that there should be no contention among them.
16 And now, Alma was their high priest, he being the founder of their church.
17 And it came to pass that none received authority to preach or to teach except it were by him from God. Therefore he consecrated all their priests and all their teachers; and none were consecrated except they were just men.
18 Therefore they did watch over their people, and did nourish them with things pertaining to righteousness.
Book of Mormon | Mosiah 23:13-18

Whom Do WE Believe?

1) Pursuers and protectors of power, gain, & glory? OR

2
) Witnesses who risk and often lose everything by criticizing / exposing such pursuers and protectors?

PLUS the WORD & the WISDOM:
● Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.2
● ... they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.3
● For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.4
● GO to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth eaten. Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.5
● Wo unto you rich men, that will not give your substance to the poor, for your riches will canker your souls; and this shall be your lamentation in the day of visitation, and of judgment, and of indignation: The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and my soul is not saved!6
● And whatsoever nation shall uphold such secret combinations, to get power and gain, until they shall spread over the nation, behold, they shall be destroyed; for the Lord will not suffer that the blood of his saints, which shall be shed by them, shall always cry unto him from the ground for vengeance upon them and yet he avenge them not.7
Several times every day we are making choice of whom to believe. Do we ever ask:
Whom do I believe? Why?

The Nature of “Seeing” and “Seeing Not”

Seeing reality?
Discernment does not entail esoteric knowledge, but rather the gift of seeing reality as it really is. Nothing is more rare, or more truly revolutionary, than an accurate description of reality.1
A delusional system?
The delusional system is a game being played on us by the Powers That Be. That game is nowhere more trenchantly exposed than in the surrealistic images of Revelation 12-13.° // Of first significance is the fact that the insights in these chapters are given as revelations. John sees what for others is invisible (13:1, 2, 11); what has previously been unseen "appears" to him (12:1, 3).2
The one who sees
The seer[3] [see-er] does not, however, simply read off the spirituality of the empire or an institution from its observed behavior. The situation is more complex. The demonic spirit of the outer structure has already been internalized by the seer [see-er], along with everyone else. That is how the empire wins compliance. The seer's [see-er's] gift is not to be immune to invasion by the empire's spirituality, but to be able to discern that internalized spirituality, name it, and externalize it. This drives the demonic out of concealment. What was hidden is now revealed. The seer [see-er] is enabled to hear her or his own voice chanting the slogans of the Powers, is shown that they are a lie, and is empowered to expel them. The seer [see-er] locates the source of the chanting outside, and is set free from it.4
Do we see any parallel? Any déjà vu?
The Roman Empire had brought peace to a fratricidal world. It presided over a period of unparalleled prosperity (for the prosperous). Its might was so legendary that a single emissary could prompt surrender. But this facade of magnificence was bought at a horrible price. The revelation that comes to John strips off the mask of benevolence and reveals, beneath it, the true spirit of Rome. ... He sees, instead, a grotesque and monstrous deformity bent on supplanting God (Revelation 13), or a harlot seated on Rome's seven hills, inviting promiscuous intercourse with the client-kings she has intoxicated with the aphrodisiac of power (17:1-18).5

It is a signal achievement to have discerned Rome's monstrous spirit, though certain Cynic philosophers may have done as much. What gives John's vision added depth is its awareness that the Domination System transcends its current embodiments. No regnant Power is ever identical with the Domination System. There are too many survivals of partnership, too many outbreaks of human decency, too many compassionate, fair-minded people and strong women and equitable laws and humane officials, to achieve pure domination. But beyond each regime (symbolized in Revelation by the Beasts from land and sea) stands the ancient System of Domination, whose spirit is Satan (symbolized by the Dragon).6
When nations, peoples, animals pretend to be blind
A rise or fall in hierarchical position [pecking order position] can radically rearrange the way we see the world.7

Now and then, [when my friendly, playful German Shepherd dog and I are out walking, we encounter] a mastiff or Great Dane, a hulking giant that makes my well-built pooch look like a fuzzy midget. When one of these really big dogs appears, a strange thing happens to my pet’s enthusiasm: it disappears. Faced with a creature he knows will beat him soundly, my shepherd plays a perceptual game. He trots along staring resolutely ahead, feigning obliviousness to the massive monster in the distance. // Ethologist Frans de Waal has noted the same behavior in chimpanzees. ... [W]hen strength and swiftness [of dominant males] fade , the aging leaders ... [l]ike my dog, ... pretend they do not see. A rival may swagger toward the reigning monarch determined to assert his claims. ... He [the rival] makes terrifying noises by pounding on any resonant object in sight. He swings huge branches intimidatingly through the air. But the weakened elder deals with this pecking order challenge in a strange way. He turns his head and pretends to be utterly absorbed in examining a banana peel. For a time, the aging leader who refuses to see his rivals retains his top position. His old system of alliances props him up. ... [But] eventually, the older statesman will be forced to yield his position, and the young turk will become the new head chimp.8
What are we pretending not to see?
Like the chimp who hopes he can cling to his preeminence by ignoring a rival [or some glaring truth], we toy with our equivalent to a banana peel. While events of grisly horror grind down humans by the millions, we simply turn away.9
Seeing our way through
But how can we affirm victory in the midst of repeated defeats? // Because there are people who are now beginning to see and act free of the Domination System [the pecking order reality]. No matter how terrible the sufferings of those detained and tortured in nonviolent demonstrations in South Africa or South Korea or Burma, the reign of God has already begun! This is no pious fiction. The power of God is already made manifest, because people formerly craven and terrified are ready to be fired from jobs, bludgeoned, jailed, or killed for the sake of a fairer system. The authority of Christ is already establishing itself, because victims are not only affirming their own humanity, but doing so in a way that affirms the humanity of their oppressors. The salvation of God is a present reality, because the very struggle for liberation would not have been possible had the powerless not discovered within themselves resources laid up by God in their creation: to be nonviolent yet powerful, loving yet immovable, joyous yet prepared to die.10
Are we prepared to be seers—ones who see things as they really are? to hear the witnesses? to acknowledge that a bestial spirit has taken power in secret combinations? that our “facade of magnificence [has been] bought at a horrible price”? Or will we refuse to see? refuse unless leaders countenance our seeing? PLEASE, let us not wait for permission to see.

Let us be see-ers and doers NOW.
[A] seer [see-er] can know of things which are past, and also of things which are to come, and by them [the see-ers] shall all things be revealed, or, rather, shall secret things be made manifest, and hidden things shall come to light, and things which are not known shall be made known by them [the see-ers], and also things shall be made known by them which otherwise could not be known. Thus God has provided a means that man, through faith, might work mighty miracles; therefore he becometh a great benefit to his fellow beings.11
And seeing the spirits of domination and blindness that now reign, what better admonition to repeat than this one:
6 That we may not only publish to all the world, but present them to the heads of government in all their dark and hellish hue, as the last effort which is enjoined on us by our Heavenly Father, before we can fully and completely claim that promise which shall call him forth from his hiding place; and also that the whole nation may be left without excuse before he can send forth the power of his mighty arm.
7 It is an imperative duty that we owe to God, to angels, with whom we shall be brought to stand, and also to ourselves, to our wives and children, who have been made to bow down with grief, sorrow, and care, under the most damning hand of murder, tyranny, and oppression, supported and urged on and upheld by the influence of that spirit which hath so strongly riveted the creeds of the fathers, who have inherited lies, upon the hearts of the children, and filled the world with confusion, and has been growing stronger and stronger, and is now the very mainspring of all corruption, and the whole earth groans under the weight of its iniquity.
8 It is an iron yoke, it is a strong band; they are the very handcuffs, and chains, and shackles, and fetters of hell.
9 Therefore it is an imperative duty that we owe, not only to our own wives and children, but to the widows and fatherless, whose husbands and fathers have been murdered under its iron hand;
10 Which dark and blackening deeds are enough to make hell itself shudder, and to stand aghast and pale, and the hands of the very devil to tremble and palsy.
11 And also it is an imperative duty that we owe to all the rising generation, and to all the pure in heart—
12 For there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it—
13 Therefore, that we should waste and wear out our lives in bringing to light all the hidden things of darkness, wherein we know them; and they are truly manifest from heaven—
14 These should then be attended to with great earnestness.
15 Let no man count them as small things; for there is much which lieth in futurity, pertaining to the saints, which depends upon these things.12
Has this imperative duty ever been done: THEN or NOW?

A Latter-day Jeremiah?

in·dict·ment
  NOUN
 1. an act of indicting.
 2. Law. a formal accusation initiating a criminal case, presented by a grand jury and usually required for felonies and other serious crimes.
 3. any charge, accusation, serious criticism, or cause for blame.
 4. the state of being indicted.
       Source: Dictionary.com (bold emphasis added)
If ever there were a prophet who indicted the "children of God," it was old Jeremiah.1 In our day — at least on a political / legal level — we are hearing about thousands of sealed indictments, but in the case of old Jeremiah, the indictments were not sealed; NOR are the ten latter-day indictments of Paul Washer which he profiles in a speech entitled, Ten Indictments Against the Modern Church.2  Paul Washer3 is a controversial, outspoken Baptist minister, so an important question for us is: Are we open to examining the indictments of this Baptist minister? open to asking ourselves how many of these déjà vu charges might also apply to us?

Washer's indictments are:
1.  A Denial of the Sufficiency of Scripture
2.  An Ignorance of God
3.  A Failure to Address Man’s Malady
4.  An Ignorance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ
5.  An Unbiblical Gospel Invitation
6.  An Ignorance Regarding the Nature of the Church
7.  A Lack of Compassionate Church Discipline
8.  A Silence on Separation
9.  A Replacement of the Scriptures Regarding the Family
10. Pastors Malnourished in the Word of God
Do we have the courage to read and ponder his words?

1. Jeremiah ~ LDS Bible Dictionary: "After [King] Josiah’s death [Jeremiah] tried to stem, almost alone, the tide of idolatry and immorality, of self-deception founded on superficial reforms (Jer. 3:4–5; 7:8–10), and of fanatical confidence in the Lord’s protection, in which all classes were carried away. He had to face continuous opposition and insult from the priests (20:2), the mob (26:8–9), his townsmen at Anathoth (11:19), the frivolous and cruel (22:13; 36:23; 26:20), the king (36:19), and the army (38:4)."

Consolation?

Lately, there seem to be many people agonizing over the deceptions that they feel loved ones are falling victim to; and they may, in many instances, be right, but if this warning is accurate:
For in those days there shall also arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders, insomuch, that, if possible, they shall deceive the very elect, who are the elect according to the covenant,1
perhaps we should be as ready to examine our own traditions and expectations, and not be so convinced that we, personally, cannot and will not be amongst the deceived.

So IF, in coming days, many of us find ourselves deceived—being blind and deaf in some degree or other—here are three verses of possible consolation (bold emphasis added):
Behold, verily I say unto you, there are hypocrites among you, who have deceived some, which has given the adversary power; but behold such shall be reclaimed; (Doctrine and Covenants 50:7)

Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. (Old Testament | Isaiah 35:5)

And when thy people transgress, any of them, they may speedily repent and return unto thee, and find favor in thy sight, and be restored to the blessings which thou hast ordained to be poured out upon those who shall reverence thee in thy house. (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 109:21)

#6: FLAGS*

How to Save Everyone?

Before the creation of this world, we understand that there was a pre-mortal council where the Father's plan received some offer of correction by one called Lucifer. Lucifer apparently offered to save everyone so that “not one soul shall be lost”1 whereas the Father's plan contained a risk (via moral agency) that some would fail the plan for progression. Typically, we have seemed to think that the adversary (of God's plan of agency) meant to compel everyone to obey God's rules or, at least, to do and be good, but as the frequent fate of mortal tyrants2 should have taught us—force requires a vast army of enforcers and considerable risk of rebellion and coup. Even with propaganda, bullying, trauma-based mind control, medications, implants, and other technologies, individual will remains a volatile factor. This is not to say that psychopaths might not imagine total control is in their power, but perhaps there are other less onerous schemes that Lucifer might have imagined to save everyone.

Here are two possibilities:

   1) Do away with Law
Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression. (New Testament | Romans 4:15)

... sin is not imputed when there is no law. (New Testament | Romans 5:13)

Wherefore, he has given a law; and where there is no law given there is no punishment; and where there is no punishment there is no condemnation; and where there is no condemnation the mercies of the Holy One of Israel have claim upon them, because of the atonement; for they are delivered by the power of him. (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 9:25)

Now, how could a man repent except he should sin? How could he sin if there was no law? How could there be a law save there was a punishment? (Book of Mormon | Alma 42:17)

Now, if there was no law given—if a man murdered he should die—would he be afraid he would die if he should murder? And also, if there was no law given against sin men would not be afraid to sin. And if there was no law given, if men sinned what could justice do, or mercy either, for they would have no claim upon the creature? (Book of Mormon | Alma 42:19-21)

And then shall the heathen nations be redeemed, and they that knew no law shall have part in the first resurrection; and it shall be tolerable for them. (Doctrine and Covenants 45:54)

And if ye shall say there is no law, ye shall also say there is no sin. If ye shall say there is no sin, ye shall also say there is no righteousness. And if there be no righteousness there be no happiness. And if there be no righteousness nor happiness there be no punishment nor misery. And if these things are not there is no God. And if there is no God we are not, neither the earth; for there could have been no creation of things, neither to act nor to be acted upon; wherefore, all things must have vanished away. (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 2:13)

For behold that all little children are alive in Christ, and also all they that are without the law. For the power of redemption cometh on all them that have no law; wherefore, he that is not condemned, or he that is under no condemnation, cannot repent; and unto such baptism availeth nothing— (Book of Mormon | Moroni 8:22)
   2) Endless Re-Cycling

In this “salvation,” all the failures must repeat the test until they finally get it right. In short, re-incarnate until one is worthy to be saved. It might take forever, but if time is not an issue or a pressure, then theoretically everyone could be saved given enough endless “time.” This seems to be one of the teachings of the “Ascended Masters”3 that many new- and old-age mystics encounter during meditations and seeking experiences. For example:
In the Ascended Master Teachings, Ascended Masters are believed to be spiritually enlightened beings who in past incarnation were ordinary humans, but who have undergone a series of spiritual transformations originally called initiations. ... ¶¶ It is believed [by whom?] that Ascended Masters are individuals who were formerly embodied on the Earth and learned the lessons of life during their incarnations. They gained mastery over the limitations of the matter planes, balanced at least 51% of negative karma, and fulfilled their Dharma (divine plan). An Ascended Master, in such an understanding, has become God-like and a source of unconditional "Divine Love" to all life, and through the Ascension has united with his or her own "God Self," the "I AM Presence." ¶ It is further claimed by various groups and teachers that the Ascended Masters serve as the teachers of mankind from the realms of Spirit, and that all people will eventually attain their Ascension and move forward in spiritual evolution beyond this planet. According to these teachings, they remain attentive to the spiritual needs of humanity, and act to inspire and motivate its spiritual growth.4
Note the belief “that all people eventually attain their Ascension and move forward in spiritual evolution.”

So what do we make of all this similarity and co-opting/tweaking by the adversary of spiritual truths? How do we discern between the teachings of ascended masters / light workers and the Holy Ghost and true messengers?

And what do the scriptures say about everyone being saved? Don't they tell us that everyone can be if they will repent and do the will of God, but that many will not and will thus be judged and rewarded according to the things that they were willing to receive?
And they who remain shall also be quickened; nevertheless, they shall return again to their own place, to enjoy that which they are willing to receive, because they were not willing to enjoy that which they might have received. (Doctrine and Covenants 88:32)
So once again, I find myself uneasy with the salvation concepts of Denver Snuffer—with the required cycling to attain to the “prototype of the saved man.” I don't think such cycling is supported in scripture or in Joseph's words—not even the King Follet discourse. This cycling concept reminds me too much of some of the teachings of those alleged “ascended masters.” I do not yet know enough to judge Snuffer's experiences, but I feel an uneasiness about his cycling/re-cycling teachings.5

*This is number six in the FLAG series intended to encourage us in these last days to apply these words of wisdom and warning:

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
(New Testament | 1 Thessalonians 5:21)
▪ Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye shall continue in the Son, and also in the Father. … These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. (New Testament | JST 1 John 2: 24, 26)
▪ False prophets[†] always arise to oppose the true prophets[†]and they will prophesy so very near the truth that they will deceive almost the very chosen ones.” (Joseph Smith, TPJS, p. 365)

[†] Note: I am not purporting to know for a surety who is false or true in this latter-day, because, as the Lord told Joseph: “you cannot always judge the righteous, or as you cannot always tell the wicked from the righteous, therefore I say unto you, hold your peace until I shall see fit to make all things known unto the world concerning the matter” (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 10:37). And since my peace comes in writing and in trying to “prove ALL things,” I share in these FLAGS things that concern me, hoping that they might help others who are also seeking for the discerning spirit. And since we have been repeatedly warned about the “arm of flesh,” I try to measure ALL latter-day voices and traditions against the Word of God, as best I can.

1. Pearl of Great Price | Moses 4:1 ~ And I, the Lord God, spake unto Moses, saying: That Satan, whom thou hast commanded in the name of mine Only Begotten, is the same which was from the beginning, and he came before me, saying—Behold, here am I, send me, I will be thy son, and I will redeem all mankind, that one soul shall not be lost, and surely I will do it; wherefore give me thine honor.

3. “The Ascended Masters presently serving Earth humans are largely those Souls that lived numerous lives on Planet Earth ... successfully completed the Initiatory Process as demonstrated to us by Jesus during his last incarnation on Earth and by which he achieved ascension to higher levels of consciousness. They are our elder brothers and sisters in whose footsteps we are to follow by graduating from Planet Earth's Schoolhouse. ¶ In the words of Elizabeth Claire Prophet in her book CLIMB THE HIGHEST MOUNTAIN: The Path of The Higher Self: "Those who become Ascended Masters are immediately enlisted in world service as emissaries of the Most High. Whereas before the ascension, they were instruments of the Holy Spirit at outer levels, they now function as His instruments at 'inner levels,' using the combined Light momentum of all other Ascended Beings to implement the plan of God--Above and Below. Their ministrations mightily assist their unascended brothers and sisters in finding their divine plan and in humbling themselves before their own Divine Identity.” ... Our earthly pathway to ascension involves utter dedication to completing the mission given to us by Mother-Father God. Working with us on this mission will be our Twin Flame who is most often on a higher dimension. ... ¶ Ascended Master Jesus and Ascended Lady Master Mary of Magdala (now called Nada) are examples of individuals who worked together on Earth in accomplishing the mission given them as Twin Flames. Quoting Elizabeth Claire Prophet: "Through such dedicated lifestreams [humankind has] been given insight into the nature of the soul, the purpose of life, and the science of being. Once they had completed the task which the Father sent them to do, many of these holy men and women departed this earth plane, ascending into the Presence of God--into the Consciousness of God. They are known as Ascended Masters precisely because through sacred communion and service to Life, based upon the complete surrender of their human identity patterns, their consciousness became one with His prior to their reunion with the God Self [or I AM PRESENCE]. From this level of complete identification with God, these holy ones continue to illumine with an expanding awareness of God's Mind their brothers and sisters who have not yet graduated from Life's schoolrooms upon this and other planets. Therefore, in our consideration of consciousness we shall look to these teachers who, while yet maintaining contact with [humankind], live and move and have their being in the Great Sea of God's Consciousness; for they have approximated more of God's consciousness than all who remain in the unascended state.” (Nancy B. Detweiler, M.Ed., M.Div. at http://www.pathwaytoascension.com/teachings/intro.html; footnote references omitted in this quote.)
“The teachings of Helen Blavatsky include a group of souls who allegedly earned their right to ascend and return to Earth from time to time as teachers, or just teach from a higher plane of existence. It's all part of human evolution in the alchemy of time. These theories had merit back in the day, but it's the second decade of the 21st century a time to move beyond 19th century thinking and realize the hologram of our reality is ending.” masters.
