“Even Daniel was mystified by [the fourth creature]. He described it as exceedingly powerful, destructive, and terrifying. But he used another Hebrew word over and over again to describe it. The word is shainah. Shainah can be translated to mean different. The fourth creature is especially different from all the creatures that went before it. Thus, the civilization of the last days will be different from every civilization that preceded it. The word shainah also means changed or altered. Thus the state of the last days will be a changed state . . . an altered civilization. The first three creatures were based on the forms of nature. But the fourth creature has no clear grounding in nature. Its teeth and claws are of iron and bronze. It’s different . . . altered . . . changed.”

“Sounds more like a machine,” I said.

“The revelation of the fourth creature is this: End-time civilization will be based not on the natural, but on the unnatural. It will exist against nature. It will be of an altered or transmuted nature . . . a civilization at war with creation, with nature, and with the order of God.”¹

If we only knew how much has been hidden by secret combinations; how much they have hinted at over the years, yea even revealed, in Technicolor as if ‘twere science fiction — satanic (mocking?) parables for the blind and deaf!

Here are more warning voices to awake us from a sleep of death:

It all started innocently enough. Decades ago, newspaper articles began to tell the story of scientists’ successful experiments with hybrid crops that grew faster and in harsher climates, resisted diseases better, and yielded more food per acre than previously thought possible. Later, TV programs touted artificial insemination and test-tube fertilization, which allowed infertile couples to experience the miracle of life. Not long after that, stories were popping up on the World Wide Web about monoclonal antibodies that promised cures for dreaded diseases, robots that looked and acted human, and the mysterious Human Genome Project— a massive effort to reverse engineer the very operating system of the human body.²

Science is on the verge of a quantum advance, one that will bring into existence objects and creatures we have never seen before having abilities we cannot imagine. The ultimate objective of this new science is nothing short of revolutionary— to transform and recreate mankind itself.³

Our version 1.0 biological bodies are frail and subject to a myriad of failure modes. The Singularity will allow us to transcend these limitations. We will gain power over our fates. Our mortality will be in our own hands [and] the nonbiological portion of our intelligence will be trillions of trillions of times more powerful than unaided human intelligence.⁴

As a result of this bridge between technology and human biology being attained this century, nothing less than the wholesale redesign of humans, including genetic integration with other life-forms— plants, animals, and synthetic creations— will be realized. This vision— the borgification (marriage between biology and machine) of man— is supported in the latest “State of the Future” report (2010) by the global think tank, the Millennium Project, founded after a three-year feasibility study with the United Nations University, Smithsonian Institution, and the Futures Group International, where synthetic biologists affirm that “as computer code is written to create software to augment human capabilities, so too genetic code will be written to create life forms to augment civilization.”⁵

… scientists inside Britain are comfortable now with up to 50/ 50 animal-human integration. The article implied that not all the research currently under design is kept at the embryonic level, and that fully mature monstrosities (like the creature in the 2010 movie Splice) may be under study as “some scientists in some places want to push boundaries.” National Geographic magazine speculated in 2007 that within ten years, the first of such human-animals would walk the earth[.]⁶

The language in this section of the document actually speaks of eliminating “cell death” through creation of “a new generation of regenerative cells that could ultimately be programmed to live indefinitely.” In other words, whatever this synthetic life application is (Wired magazine described it as “living, breathing creatures”), the plan is to make it immortal.⁷

[T]echno-utopians believe they will triumph over prophets of doom by “stealing fire from the gods, breathing life into inert matter, and gaining immortality. Our efforts to become something more than human have a long and distinguished genealogy. Tracing the history of those efforts illuminates human nature. In every civilization, in every era, we have given the gods no peace.” ... Such men are joined in their quest for godlike constitutions by a growing list of official U.S. departments that dole out hundreds of millions of dollars each year for science and technology research.⁸

Prof. Mark Walker spoke on “Becoming Godlike,” James Hughes offered “Buddhism and Transhumanism: The Technologies of Self-Perfection,” Michael LaTorra gave a “Trans-Spirit” speech, nanotechnologist and lay Catholic Tihamer Toth-Fejel presented “Is Catholic Transhumanism Possible?" and Nick Bostrom spoke on “Transhumanism and Religion.”⁹

Improving on God? Part 2

As one who spent many decades questioning God and telling Him how He could improve His plan for His creation, I venture an opinion based on experience. I am still not entirely free of counselling God, but have tried in recent years to accept this counsel:

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Old Testament | Isaiah 55:8-9)

Wherefore, ... seek not to counsel the Lord, but to take counsel from his hand. For behold, ye yourselves know that he counseleth in wisdom, and in justice, and in great mercy, over all his works. (Book of Mormon | Jacob 4:10)

Wherefore, enter ye in at the gate, as I have commanded, and seek not to counsel your God. (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 22:4)

But having spent so many years trying to improve on God, I am perhaps hypersensitive to examples in scripture and in our culture¹ as I have tried to root out and repent of this disposition in myself. I have come to see in myself and in much of our culture, a continuing manifestation of the war in heaven where the adversary was determined that his plan and perspectives were an improvement on God's.²

Many of these Déjà Vu ~ Times³ and Déjà Vu ~ Times II posts revolve around this theme of mankind's pursuits, corruptions, and catastrophes.⁴ Many of these so-called “improvements” have been secretly developed and hidden so that most of us go about our business oblivious to the experiments, distortions, and “black tech” corruptions of a divine plan. Thus, while we are preoccupied and distracted, the adversary goes about seeking whom he may devour⁵ and what he can destroy.⁶

Satan's “improvements” have gone way beyond “the philosophies of men mingled with scripture.” That has always been a problem as described by Nibley:

To believe of God's word only what checks with our own limited experience; to trust God only as far as we can "control" him by our feeble reasoning; to accept his revelations only where they square with our calculations—that is not faith, but suspicion and doubt. Scholastic philosophy, nay, all conventional theology, is constantly laying down the law as to what God can and cannot do; what is proper and fitting to Deity and what is not. Instead of being controlled by God, those thinkers who would answer the great questions of life insist on sitting at the controls. By their tricks and slogans, they assure us, they are working out concepts which will be adequately plausible for our acceptance: Then we can rejoice that we have found God!⁷

But Satan's latter-day agenda of devour and destroy⁸ is almost beyond comprehension and belief. Thus, every accountable soul has innumerable opportunities to choose the “world's will, ways, and perspective” versus “God's will, ways, and perspective.”⁹ Yet from what I see, many of us seem still asleep to what is really going on—what the pursuers of power and gain are escalating; asleep to the déjà vus God is seeing from on high—the stuff God had to force Ezekiel to confront in Ezekiel chapter 8. Perhaps the very same stuff as the days of Noah.¹⁰

Note added April 6, 2017: For those who want to explore some of the realities of attempted improvements (including mind control) by the US Gov't / CIA / et al. over the past 70 plus years, there are plenty of credible witnesses. Here is one to begin an awakening journey:

IF “There is no institution so pure and excellent which the corruption and folly of man will not, in time, alter for the worse”¹;

IF the same observation applies to written text²;

IF the source of Facsimile 3 is of unknown, ancient origin;

IF the copy Joseph Smith had was a corrupted version of some older text;

IF Joseph had access to revelation, visions, and divine technology, as he claimed;

THEN, WHAT IF this facsimile, as sketched by the Prophet Joseph, reverts back to an older, truer rendition and reading, making all the scholarly-scorn, hand-wringing, and head-clutching for naught?

Again, just asking.

Lesser Things?

Since reading the following (humor-intended?) comment in a discussion group, I have been thinking about the perspective prison that many of us seem to accept without question. The comment was:

“... no Internet? But wait—you may be right! 2 Nephi 13: 18, 20 does say that “In that day the Lord will take away . . . their tablets . . .” I guess if Nephi says I have to give up my iPad, then so be it. But at least he didn’t say anything about my iPhone!”

My reply was: “Perhaps the new (and everlasting[!!]) technology [of a Zion society] will surpass our tablets and iphones (D&C 130:9-10) in ways we cannot imagine, which is highly likely considering Isaiah 55:8-9.”

I wonder if our perspective prison is that we think all our mechanical/physical technology is going to be translated into the next phase (with celestial improvements, of course)? But what if OUR technology is ALL utterly telestial? What if we have become so focused on the marvels of lesser things that we have forgotten there is a “technology” vastly superior composed of light and faith? (Ref.: D&C 88 and Lectures on Faith, Lecture One.)

What if all these marvels of lesser things have tragically distracted us from the real marvel of celestial “technology” and our divine destiny*? What if:

Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made: [?] (Old Testament Isaiah 2:8)

What do our fingers make? Yes, many “good” things? But what is the preponderance? What do our fingers make appear? Words, images, music, texts, tweets, sounds, etc. etc., etc.? For what purpose?

Yes, God can and does use our lesser technology for His good purposes. At some point, His question to us will probably be: Did you?

Has there ever been a time when our hands have been so constantly in use? So continually making choices? When our eyes have been so persistently focused and refocused? On what? To edification? To the glory of God or the obsession of self?

Are we but déjà vu the children of Israel (all Twelve Tribes), and countless others who were given lesser gifts and powers because they were not prepared to (and could not) abide greater ones?**

Again, just asking (for self-reflection).
