Multiple Mortalities?

Lately, I have heard increasing references to the concept of multiple mortalities for some of God's servants and noble ones, which, in essence, amounts to a spirit incarnating more than once1 (allegedly through the normal birth process) in order: 1) to complete a mission that was unfulfilled during a prior incarnation, or 2) to fulfill an end-time prophecy. If you have not heard of multiple mortalities, undoubtedly, you soon will. As you make up your mind to believe or not, here are a crowd of witnesses to consider (all bold emphasis added):

From Scripture (more quotes at footnote 2):
45 Now, behold, I [Amulek] have spoken unto you concerning the death of the mortal body, and also concerning the resurrection of the mortal body. I say unto you that this mortal body is raised to an immortal body, that is from death, even from the first death unto life, that they can die no more; their spirits uniting with their bodies, never to be divided; thus the whole becoming spiritual and immortal, that they can no more see corruption.  (Book of Mormon | Alma 11:45)

18 Then, I say unto you, they shall be as though there had been no redemption made; for they cannot be redeemed according to God's justice; and they cannot die, seeing there is no more corruption.
19 Now it came to pass that when Alma had made an end of speaking these words, the people began to be more astonished;
20 But there was one Antionah, who was a chief ruler among them, came forth and said unto him: What is this that thou hast said, that man should rise from the dead and be changed from this mortal to an immortal state that the soul can never die? (Book of Mormon | Alma 12:18-20)

28 They who are of a celestial spirit shall receive the same body which was a natural body; even ye shall receive your bodies, and your glory shall be that glory by which your bodies are quickened. (Doctrine and Covenants 88:28)

42 Now, there is a death which is called a temporal death; and the death of Christ shall loose the bands of this temporal death, that all shall be raised from this temporal death.
43 The spirit and the body shall be reunited again in its perfect form; both limb and joint shall be restored to its proper frame, even as we now are at this time; and we shall be brought to stand before God, knowing even as we know now, and have a bright recollection of all our guilt.
44 Now, this restoration shall come to all, both old and young, both bond and free, both male and female, both the wicked and the righteous; and even there shall not so much as a hair of their heads be lost; but every thing shall be restored to its perfect frame, as it is now, or in the body, and shall be brought and be arraigned before the bar of Christ the Son, and God the Father, and the Holy Spirit, which is one Eternal God, to be judged according to their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil. (Book of Mormon | Alma 11:42-44)

12 And this death of which I have spoken, which is the spiritual death, shall deliver up its dead; which spiritual death is hell; wherefore, death and hell must deliver up their dead, and hell must deliver up its captive spirits, and the grave must deliver up its captive bodies, and the bodies and the spirits of men will be restored one to the other; and it is by the power of the resurrection of the Holy One of Israel.
13 O how great the plan of our God! For on the other hand, the paradise of God must deliver up the spirits of the righteous, and the grave deliver up the body of the righteous; and the spirit and the body is restored to itself again, and all men become incorruptible, and immortal, and they are living souls, having a perfect knowledge like unto us in the flesh, save it be that our knowledge shall be perfect.
14 Wherefore, we shall have a perfect knowledge of all our guilt, and our uncleanness, and our nakedness; and the righteous shall have a perfect knowledge of their enjoyment, and their righteousness, being clothed with purity, yea, even with the robe ;of righteousness.
15 And it shall come to pass that when all men shall have passed from this first death unto life, insomuch as they have become immortal, they must appear before the judgment-seat of the Holy One of Israel; and then cometh the judgment, and then must they be judged according to the holy judgment of God. (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 9:12-15)

28 They who are of a celestial spirit shall receive the same body which was a natural body; even ye shall receive your bodies, and your glory shall be that glory by which your bodies are quickened.
29 Ye who are quickened by a portion of the celestial glory shall then receive of the same, even a fulness.
30 And they who are quickened by a portion of the terrestrial glory shall then receive of the same, even a fulness.
31 And also they who are quickened by a portion of the telestial glory shall then receive of the same, even a fulness.
32 And they who remain shall also be quickened; nevertheless, they shall return again to their own place, to enjoy that which they are willing to receive, because they were not willing to enjoy that which they might have received.  (Doctrine and Covenants 88:28-32)

9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. (New Testament | Romans 6:9-10)

4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. (New Testament | Revelation 21:4)

8 But there is a resurrection, therefore the grave hath no victory, and the sting of death is swallowed up in Christ.
9 He is the light and the life of the world; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea, and also a life which is endless, that there can be no more death. (Book of Mormon | Mosiah 16:8-9)

33 For man is spirit. The elements are eternal, and spirit and element, inseparably connected, receive a fulness of joy; (Doctrine and Covenants | 93:33)

29 And there shall be no sorrow because there is no death. (Doctrine and Covenants | 101:29)
From Joseph Smith (more quotes at footnote 3):
We came to this earth that we might have a body and present it pure before God in the celestial kingdom. (TPJS, 181; footnote reference omitted.)

[The spirit] existed before the body, can exist in the body; and will exist separate from the body, when the body will be mouldering in the dust; and will in the resurrection be again united with it. (TPJS, 207, footnote references omitted.)

How doth [Abel] yet speak? Why he magnified the Priesthood which was conferred upon him, and died a righteous man, and therefore has become an angel of God by receiving his body from the dead, holding still the keys of his dispensation; and was sent down from heaven unto Paul to minister consoling words, and to commit unto him a knowledge of the mysteries of godliness. (TPJS, 169; footnote references omitted.)

The mind or the intelligence which man possesses is co-equal, with God himself. I know that my testimony is true; hence, when I talk to these mourners, what have they lost? Their relatives and friends are only separated from their bodies for a short season: their spirits which existed with God have left the tabernacle of clay only for a little moment, as it were; and they now exist in a place where they converse together the same as we do on the earth. (TPJS, 353; footnote reference omitted.)
In addition to the above, consider all the angels, translated, and “spirits of just men made perfect”4 who have appeared in their spirit, quasi-mortal, or resurrected form to deliver messages, confer powers and priesthoods, or aid the confused or the needy without the need for re-incarnation. Remember Gabriel, Michael-Adam, John the Baptist, Peter, James, and John, Moroni, Elijah, and so forth. (Just search the scriptures for their names to preview their works performed after their mortality or translation.) Why would any of them need to be born again (mortal) to fulfill or finish a mission?

So much of this concept of multiple mortalities reminds me of the teachings of the Ascended Masters that I wrote about in 2016.5 To me, it smacks of a “how to save everyone” concept (running and re-running the gauntlet as many times as it takes), perhaps reminiscent of:
1 AND I, the Lord God, spake unto Moses, saying: That Satan, whom thou hast commanded in the name of mine Only Begotten, is the same which was from the beginning, and he came before me, saying—Behold, here am I, send me, I will be thy son, and I will redeem all mankind, that one soul shall not be lost, and surely I will do it; wherefore give me thine honor. (Pearl of Great Price | Moses 4:1)
Yet, this is what D&C says:
And they [inhabitants of the telestial world] shall be servants of the Most High; but where God and Christ dwell they cannot come, worlds without end. (Doctrine and Covenants 76:112)
Yes, we are to prove all things,6 and is not the foremost proof to run all things through the prism of scripture and thereafter seek confirmation of the Spirit?

And yes, there may be mysteries of God that we do not fully comprehend, but pursuant to the quotes herein, I think we should be supremely cautious of the multiple mortalities concept. I do not see proof in the Word. Outside the Word, I see interpretation and interpolation. I just wonder if this concept sets us up to expect and accept a mortal or synthetic doppelganger7?

If the counterclaim is that these scriptures and quotes apply only to resurrected beings and that multiple mortalities are possible until resurrection, then the questions become: which body will the spirit claim? which body will be restored? Where is the Word? Also consider: in cases where missions extended through millennia, God seems to have used translation (John the Beloved, the Three Nephites).8

2. ▪ Book of Mormon | Mosiah 16:9
   9 He is the light and the life of the world; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea, and also a life which is endless, that there can be no more death.
Book of Mormon | Alma 42:9
   9 Therefore, as the soul could never die, and the fall had brought upon all mankind a spiritual death as well as a temporal, that is, they were cut off from the presence of the Lord, it was expedient that mankind should be reclaimed from this spiritual death.
Book of Mormon | Alma 34:34
   34 ... for that same spirit which doth possess your bodies at the time that ye go out of this life, that same spirit will have power to possess your body in that eternal world.
Book of Mormon | Moroni 10:26
   26 And wo unto them who shall do these things away and die, for they die in their sins, and they cannot be saved in the kingdom of God; and I speak it according to the words of Christ; and I lie not.
Doctrine and Covenants | 63:49
   49 Yea, and blessed are the dead that die in the Lord, from henceforth, when the Lord shall come, and old things shall pass away, and all things become new, they shall rise from the dead and shall not die after, and shall receive an inheritance before the Lord, in the holy city.
▪ Doctrine and Covenants | Section 138:17
   17 Their sleeping dust was to be restored unto its perfect frame, bone to his bone, and the sinews and the flesh upon them, the spirit and the body to be united never again to be divided, that they might receive a fulness of joy.
Book of Mormon | Alma 12:24
   24 And we see that death comes upon mankind, yea, the death which has been spoken of by Amulek, which is the temporal death; nevertheless there was a space granted unto man in which he might repent; therefore this life became a probationary state; a time to prepare to meet God; a time to prepare for that endless state which has been spoken of by us, which is after the resurrection of the dead.
Book of Mormon | Alma 41:2
   2 I say unto thee, my son, that the plan of restoration is requisite with the justice of God; for it is requisite that all things should be restored to their proper order. Behold, it is requisite and just, according to the power and resurrection of Christ, that the soul of man should be restored to its body, and that every part of the body should be restored to itself.
New Testament | Luke 20:36
   36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
▪  New Testament | Hebrews 9:27-28
   27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
   28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
3. From Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith compiled by Joseph Fielding Smith:
▪ Now I understand by this quotation [Pearl of Great Price | Moses 7:62], that God clearly manifested to Enoch the redemption which He prepared, by offering the Messiah as a Lamb slain from before the foundation of the world; and by virtue of the same, the glorious resurrection of the Savior, and the resurrection of all the human family, even a resurrection of their corporeal bodies, is brought to pass; (TPJS, 84; footnote references omitted.)
▪ I would esteem it one of the greatest blessings, if I am to be afflicted in this world, to have my lot cast where I can find brothers and friends all around me. But this is not the thing I referred to: it is to have the privilege of having our dead buried on the land where God has appointed to gather His Saints together, and where there will be none but Saints, where they may have the privilege of laying their bodies where the Son of Man will make His appearance, and where they may hear the sound of the trump that shall call them forth to behold Him, that in the morn of the resurrection they may come forth in a body, and come up out of their graves and strike hands immediately in eternal glory and felicity, rather than be scattered thousands of miles apart. There is something good and sacred to me in this thing. The place where a man is buried is sacred to me. This subject is made mention of in the Book of Mormon and other scriptures. Even to the aborigines of this land, the burying places of their fathers are more sacred than anything else. (TPJS, 294; footnote references omitted.)
▪ I have said, Father, I desire to die here among the Saints. But if this is not Thy will, and I go hence and die, wilt Thou find some kind friend to bring my body back, and gather my friends who have fallen in foreign lands, and bring them up hither, that we may all lie together. I will tell you what I want. If tomorrow I shall be called to lie in yonder tomb, in the morning of the resurrection let me strike hands with my father, and cry, “My father,” and he will say, “My son, my son,” as soon as the rock rends and before we come out of our graves. (TPJS, 295; footnote references omitted.)
▪ All things whatsoever God in his infinite wisdom has seen fit and proper to reveal to us, while we are dwelling in mortality, in regard to our mortal bodies, are revealed to us in the abstract, and independent of affinity of this mortal tabernacle, but are revealed to our spirits precisely as though we had no bodies at all; and those revelations which will save our spirits will save our bodies. (TPJS, 355; footnote references omitted.)

   21 Peter seeing him [Apostle John] saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
   22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.
   23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?
Book of Mormon | 3 Nephi 28:6-9
   6 And he said unto them: Behold, I know your thoughts, and ye have desired the thing which John, my beloved, who was with me in my ministry, before that I was lifted up by the Jews, desired of me.
   7 Therefore, more blessed are ye, for ye shall never taste of death; but ye shall live to behold all the doings of the Father unto the children of men, even until all things shall be fulfilled according to the will of the Father, when I shall come in my glory with the powers of heaven.
   8 And ye shall never endure the pains of death; but when I shall come in my glory ye shall be changed in the twinkling of an eye from mortality to immortality; and then shall ye be blessed in the kingdom of my Father.
   9 And again, ye shall not have pain while ye shall dwell in the flesh, neither sorrow save it be for the sins of the world; and all this will I do because of the thing which ye have desired of me, for ye have desired that ye might bring the souls of men unto me, while the world shall stand.
Doctrine and Covenants | Section 7:1-6
   1 AND the Lord said unto me: John, my beloved, what desirest thou? For if you shall ask what you will, it shall be granted unto you.
   2 And I said unto him: Lord, give unto me power over death, that I may live and bring souls unto thee.
   3 And the Lord said unto me: Verily, verily, I say unto thee, because thou desirest this thou shalt tarry until I come in my glory, and shalt prophesy before nations, kindreds, tongues and people.
   4 And for this cause the Lord said unto Peter: If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? For he desired of me that he might bring souls unto me, but thou desiredst that thou mightest speedily come unto me in my kingdom.
   5 I say unto thee, Peter, this was a good desire; but my beloved has desired that he might do more, or a greater work yet among men than what he has before done.
   6 Yea, he has undertaken a greater work; therefore I will make him as flaming fire and a ministering angel; he shall minister for those who shall be heirs of salvation who dwell on the earth.

Glass-Lookers?

Since most of us have now become a flock of habitual glass-lookers, I thought it an opportune time to remember Joseph Smith, Jun.. Over eight years ago, I posted two observations about glass looking — ours and his1 — and in the intervening years, not much has changed for us, except the ubiquity of use, the frequency of use, and the misuse of use.

Just like Hiram Page2 our “iStones” can be a source of deception – one of several amazing tools to port the “lying wonders”3 of the last days. But because our glass-looking devices can also port truth, we have recently been informed of the creation of a “Disinformation Governance Board” under the direction of the USA DHS.4

Should this concern us? Should we have been concerned years ago when the escalating censorship by monopolized big tech companies began? If Satan is the father of lies,5 the prince of this world,6 and the angry-one intent on destroying agency and the world God designed and created,7 where do we think this disinformation governance is leading? to defense of truth? or to a new Kristallnacht — a virtual night-of-broken-glass8 — when truth goes into an all-knowing, algorithmic blackout? when only images, opinions, and facts authenticated and legalized by BIG governance are permitted? when the web of lies is fully woven?

So many seem so blasé about what is rapidly unfolding. Why do our latter-day reality and prayer warriors seem so few and far between? What do we see when we look into the mirror? someone who is awakened to a sense of our awful situation as commanded9? or someone who believes in and trusts the power elites, the experts, the governance?

It shouldn't require a crystal ball to divine the intended future from this coercive present. Less than eighty-five years ago, Kristallnacht happened and we vowed the like would never happen again. Now, it's all tragically déjà vu — this breaking of more than glass; this breaking of values, rights, memory, integrity, and on and on — yet the majority seem to pretend it's all justified for safety, order, and (alleged) love of an (alleged) over-populated, human-polluted, plague-prone planet. Though, according to a diminishing number of others, tyranny can never, ever happen here. Leaders are too dedicated, caring, trustworthy; “manifest destiny” is too unstoppable. Yet, why did God command us to awaken to our awful situation if all we do is act like there is nothing to do but hunker down or continue to pursue the good life, as best we can, till the rapture?

What if this partial quote of a familiar phrase is true? “If you don't stand for something, you will fall.”10

So what do we do about this world-wide-web of lies that flood our devices and TVs every day? Yes, of course, we seek out truths, but ignoring lies will not make them go away; too many accept the falsehoods. Somehow we must get to the root, as set out in this month-old, YT vlog that appeared on my tablet within hours after I wrote the above blog draft. Whatever one knows or thinks of Dana Coverstone and his graphic dreams, this vlog, “The Machines Dream” perhaps holds a key:
The Shutting Down The Machines Dream
with Cherie Goff and Dana Coverstone
(Dana Coverstone | circa April12(?), 2022 | Time: 41:57 min.)11
In a visual way, this dream manifests the words of John the Baptist and of Henry David Thoreau
10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.12

There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root.13
How do we hack at the massive, entangled roots of deception — the web of lies? Perhaps, first and foremost is through private and public prayers: to plead for truths to be revealed with greater acceptance; for lies and secrets to be exposed; for courage to stand against evil; to do our part as directed by the Spirit; for strength to trust in God instead of the world; for the blind and deaf to see and hear. Should we be offering fervent prayers confessing and seeking forgiveness for ourselves, our families, and our nations? just as Moses did;14 as Solomon did;15 as Daniel;16 as the brother of Jared;17 as Enos;18 as Joseph Smith.19

Do we even recognize the need for repentance and forgiveness? Perhaps your area is different from mine, but it is rare to hear pleadings like unto Moses, Daniel, and others. Even my own prayers20 seem too often constrained into a box of expectation, tradition, and fear of offending mortal listeners.

Let us break away from our rote prayer traditions. Using our devices where needful, let us join with other people of faith, whether in public or private, near or far, and plead for God's help in overcoming the lies that are spinning and churning 24-7 as the father of those lies pursues the destruction of agency and the re-making of the world in his imagination, through his power paradigm of brute force.

Fervent, confessing, repentant prayer has more power to call God forth than many of us (in my experience) believe. And I wonder, too, if a 2022 update of Doctrine and Covenants Section 12321 by faithful believers in God everywhere has met a renewed imperative duty sufficiently to call God forth. So many exposés of evil have been documented and published that most of us will be without excuse. And though many of us are still living in relative stability, the world for many others has already descended into a new Kristallnacht. O, that we were hearing and offering prayers for saints and sinners, for family, friends, and enemies, like the prayer of Joseph during the Kirtland Temple dedication.22

Let us pray as never before that the words of Isaiah may be again fulfilled:
1 THE Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
4 ¶ And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.23

   6 And Satan put it into the heart of the serpent, (for he had drawn away many after him,) and he sought also to beguile Eve, for he knew not the mind of God, wherefore he sought to destroy the world.

   9 And our spirits must have become like unto him, and we become devils, angels to a devil, to be shut out from the presence of our God, and to remain with the father of lies, in misery, like unto himself; yea, to that being who beguiled our first parents, who transformeth himself nigh unto an angel of light, and stirreth up the children of men unto secret combinations of murder and all manner of secret works of darkness.

   6 That we may not only publish to all the world, but present them to the heads of government in all their dark and hellish hue, as the last effort which is enjoined on us by our Heavenly Father, before we can fully and completely claim that promise which shall call him forth from his hiding place; and also that the whole nation may be left without excuse before he can send forth the power of his mighty arm.
   7 It is an imperative duty that we owe to God, to angels, with whom we shall be brought to stand, and also to ourselves, to our wives and children, who have been made to bow down with grief, sorrow, and care, under the most damning hand of murder, tyranny, and oppression, supported and urged on and upheld by the influence of that spirit which hath so strongly riveted the creeds of the fathers, who have inherited lies, upon the hearts of the children, and filled the world with confusion, and has been growing stronger and stronger, and is now the very mainspring of all corruption, and the whole earth groans under the weight of its iniquity.
   8 It is an iron yoke, it is a strong band; they are the very handcuffs, and chains, and shackles, and fetters of hell.
   9 Therefore it is an imperative duty that we owe, not only to our own wives and children, but to the widows and fatherless, whose husbands and fathers have been murdered under its iron hand;
   10 Which dark and blackening deeds are enough to make hell itself shudder, and to stand aghast and pale, and the hands of the very devil to tremble and palsy.
   11 And also it is an imperative duty that we owe to all the rising generation, and to all the pure in heart—
   12 For there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it—
   13 Therefore, that we should waste and wear out our lives in bringing to light all the hidden things of darkness, wherein we know them; and they are truly manifest from heaven—
   14 These should then be attended to with great earnestness.
   15 Let no man count them as small things; for there is much which lieth in futurity, pertaining to the saints, which depends upon these things.
   16 You know, brethren, that a very large ship is benefited very much by a very small helm in the time of a storm, by being kept workways with the wind and the waves.
   17 Therefore, dearly beloved brethren, let us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power; and then may we stand still, with the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed.
22Doctrine and Covenants | Section 109 (a sampling out of 80 verses):
   29 We ask thee, Holy Father, to confound, and astonish, and to bring to shame and confusion, all those who have spread lying reports abroad, over the world, against thy servant or servants, if they will not repent, when the everlasting gospel shall be proclaimed in their ears;
   30 And that all their works may be brought to naught, and be swept away by the hail, and by the judgments which thou wilt send upon them in thine anger, that there may be an end to lyings and slanders against thy people. ...
   34 O Jehovah, have mercy upon this people, and as all men sin forgive the transgressions of thy people, and let them be blotted out forever. ...
   43 O Lord, we delight not in the destruction of our fellow men; their souls are precious before thee;
   44 But thy word must be fulfilled. Help thy servants to say, with thy grace assisting them: Thy will be done, O Lord, and not ours.
   45 We know that thou hast spoken by the mouth of thy prophets terrible things concerning the wicked, in the last days—that thou wilt pour out thy judgments, without measure;
   46 Therefore, O Lord, deliver thy people from the calamity of the wicked; enable thy servants to seal up the law, and bind up the testimony, that they may be prepared against the day of burning. ...
   48 Thou knowest, O Lord, that they have been greatly oppressed and afflicted by wicked men; and our hearts flow out with sorrow because of their grievous burdens. ...
   50 Have mercy, O Lord, upon the wicked mob, who have driven thy people, that they may cease to spoil, that they may repent of their sins if repentance is to be found;
   51 But if they will not, make bare thine arm, O Lord, and redeem that which thou didst appoint a Zion unto thy people.
   52 And if it cannot be otherwise, that the cause of thy people may not fail before thee may thine anger be kindled, and thine indignation fall upon them, that they may be wasted away, both root and branch, from under heaven;
   53 But inasmuch as they will repent, thou art gracious and merciful, and wilt turn away thy wrath when thou lookest upon the face of thine Anointed.
   54 Have mercy, O Lord, upon all the nations of the earth; have mercy upon the rulers of our land; may those principles, which were so honorably and nobly defended, namely, the Constitution of our land, by our fathers, be established forever.
   55 Remember the kings, the princes, the nobles, and the great ones of the earth, and all people, and the churches, all the poor, the needy, and afflicted ones of the earth;
   56 That their hearts may be softened when thy servants shall go out from thy house, O Jehovah, to bear testimony of thy name; that their prejudices may give way before the truth, and thy people may obtain favor in the sight of all;
   57 That all the ends of the earth may know that we, thy servants, have heard thy voice, and that thou hast sent us; ...
   72 Remember all thy church, O Lord, with all their families, and all their immediate connections, with all their sick and afflicted ones, with all the poor and meek of the earth; that the kingdom, which thou hast set up without hands, may become a great mountain and fill the whole earth;
   73 That thy church may come forth out of the wilderness of darkness, and shine forth fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners; ...
   77 O Lord God Almighty, hear us in these our petitions, and answer us from heaven, thy holy habitation, where thou sittest enthroned, with glory, honor, power, majesty, might, dominion, truth, justice, judgment, mercy, and an infinity of fulness, from everlasting to everlasting.
   78 O hear, O hear, O hear us, O Lord! And answer these petitions, and accept the dedication of this house unto thee, the work of our hands, which we have built unto thy name;
   79 And also this church, to put upon it thy name. And help us by the power of thy Spirit, that we may mingle our voices with those bright, shining seraphs around thy throne, with acclamations of praise, singing Hosanna to God and the Lamb!

Prophetic Kirtland? More Important Than We Know?

(Day of week calculator*)
(#-of-days-between calculator**)

Yesterday, I read two dedicatory prayers on the same evening1: king Solomon's dedication2 of the temple in Jerusalem that was completed circa  957 BC and Joseph Smith's dedication of the Kirtland Temple,3 completed in 1836 AD (about 2,793 years after Solomon's dedication), yet the spirit and beauty of the prayers seemed as one. The shapes of the temples seem similar to me as well – rectangular and boxy — so unlike many elaborate religious structures of the past and present, yet both temples (of Solomon and Kirtland) were built according to a pattern revealed by God.4 For some reason, God insisted on micro-managing the design and accessories of these two temples. Remember, also, the Tabernacle of Moses?5 Is there something important about shapes and measures? something that appears plain-ish on the outside but contains unexpected revelation within, like a geode? something the great Architect-Designer sees and knows about truth and beauty that we don't?

Solomon's Temple endured for about 370 years and served as a pivotal centre for the children of Israel until their division after Solomon's death (circa 931 BC) and then subsequent captivity of the Northern Kingdom in 722 BC. Finally, about 587 BC, the temple built by Solomon was destroyed by the Babylonians. But as I ponder the two structures and dedicatory prayers, I wonder if there is some prophetic, pivotal measure about the Kirtland Temple that we have not recognized – which brings me directly to a 2008 post6 that I recently encountered, written by Mr. Watcher.7 I first referred to Mr. Watcher in my previous Déjà Vu Times II post of April 27, 2022.8

Mr. Watcher's 2008 post was subtitled: Daniel the Prophet and the Kirtland Temple. In my view, this post is so thought-provoking and potentially important to understanding some aspects of latter-day prophecy that it deserves a resurrected awareness; plus there is a possible element of God's evening-to-evening day as reviewed here.9

In short, Mr. Watcher's thesis is that the Kirtland Temple fulfills a portion of Daniel's prophecies concerning the 139 weeks of Daniel's end times instruction by Gabriel;10 and, in addition, may give us a marker for prophecy calculation. I cannot adequately condense Mr. Watcher's post, so please read it here.11 But when you get to these paragraphs, remember God's evening-to-evening day. Mr. Watcher writes:
Once again I began with the date that Christ appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery to forgive their sins, accept the temple and usher in the various dispensational keys. I backed up 70 weeks from Sunday April 3rd 1836 to find the starting date of the seventy-week period. It is Sunday November 30th, 1834. I Began looking though the history of the church to see if anything of significance happened on that date that might involve Joseph and Oliver. The event according to Daniel would be essential in making a reconciliation for sins. Once again I was blown away at what I found. Here is what the Documentary History of the Church has to say about the prophecy on that date and the covenant that was made the day before. [His bold emphasis]

The Covenant of Tithing [consecration].

On the evening of the 29th of November, I united in prayer with Brother Oliver for the continuance of blessings. After giving thanks for the relief which the Lord had lately sent us by opening the hearts of the brethren from the east, to loan us $430; after commencing and rejoicing before the Lord on this occasion, we agreed to enter into the following covenant with the Lord, ... [His color emphasis]
Since the covenant Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery made with the Lord was on the evening of November 29, 1834, it would already be Sunday, November 30, 1834 (according to God's evening-to-evening day), being the beginning of the first week of the 70 weeks' count until the remarkable vision of Sunday, April 3, 1836 in the Kirtland Temple recorded in D&C 110 — making 490 days – not a day less, not a day more than 70 weeks 12

When it comes down to scripture and prophecy, God seems to be a God of déjà vu — of types and shadows, of double (plus?) and precise fulfillment. Thus, should we be paying more attention to our history? Should we be considering whether Kirtland may contain far more information and promise for our future than we realize?

Side-notes:
1. Mr. Watcher has many interesting ideas which I have not had time to process, so I am not endorsing all his writings or beliefs, but as the Apostle Paul advised:
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.13
2. As to Mr. Watcher's connecting of Kirtland to Jerusalem (per archetypes / “types and shadows”), here are Ohio map sources14 showing a Jerusalem Road passing north of Kirtland.

1. I was motivated to re-read Solomon's prayer after reading Philip Yancey's entry: “DAY 120 1 Kings 6: 1, 38; 8: 1– 34” in his Meet the Bible anthology. Yancey, Philip; Quinn, Brenda. Meet the Bible (p. 222). Zondervan. Kindle Edition.
2. Old Testament | 1 Kings 6:1, 38
   1 AND it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.
   38 And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it.

4. Temple built by Solomon
Old Testament | 1 Chronicles 28:6-8, 11-21 (Bold emphasis added.)
   6 And he said unto me [David], Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.
   7 Moreover I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this day.
   8 Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the LORD, and in the audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the LORD your God: that ye may possess this good  land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever. ...
    11 ¶ Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the porch, and of the houses thereof, and of the treasuries thereof, and of the upper chambers thereof, and of the inner parlours thereof, and of the place of the mercy seat,
   12 And the pattern of all that he had by the spirit, of the courts of the house of the LORD, and of all the chambers round about, of the treasuries of the house of God, and of the treasuries of the dedicated things:
   13 Also for the courses of the priests and the Levites, and for all the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and for all the vessels of service in the house of the LORD.
   14 He gave of gold by weight for things of gold, for all instruments of all manner of service; silver also for all instruments of silver by weight, for all instruments of every kind of service:
   15 Even the weight for the candlesticks of gold, and for their lamps of gold, by weight for every candlestick, and for the lamps thereof: and for the candlesticks of silver by weight, both for the candlestick, and also for the lamps thereof, according to the use of every candlestick.
   16 And by weight he gave gold for the tables of shewbread, for every table; and likewise silver for the tables of silver:
   17 Also pure gold for the fleshhooks, and the bowls, and the cups: and for the golden basons he gave gold by weight for every bason; and likewise silver by weight for every bason of silver:
   18 And for the altar of incense refined gold by weight; and gold for the pattern of the chariot of the cherubims, that spread out their wings, and covered the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
   19 All this, said David, the LORD made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern.
   20 And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.
   21 And, behold, the courses of the priests and the Levites, even they shall be with thee for all the service of the house of God: and there shall be with thee for all manner of workmanship every willing skilful man, for any manner of service: also the princes and all the people will be wholly at thy commandment.

Doctrine and Covenants | Section 94:1-7 (Bold emphasis added.)
   1 AND again, verily I say unto you, my friends, a commandment I give unto you, that ye shall commence a work of laying out and preparing a beginning and foundation of the city of the stake of Zion, here in the land of Kirtland, beginning at my house.
   2 And behold, it must be done according to the pattern which I have given unto you.
   3 And let the first lot on the south be consecrated unto me for the building of a house for the presidency, for the work of the presidency, in obtaining revelations; and for the work of the ministry of the presidency, in all things pertaining to the church and kingdom.
   4 Verily I say unto you, that it shall be built fifty–five by sixty–five feet in the width thereof and in the length thereof, in the inner court.
   5 And there shall be a lower court and a higher court, according to the pattern which shall be given unto you hereafter.
   6 And it shall be dedicated unto the Lord from the foundation thereof, according to the order of the priesthood, according to the pattern which shall be given unto you hereafter.
   7 And it shall be wholly dedicated unto the Lord for the work of the presidency.
Doctrine and Covenants | Section 97:10
   10 Verily I say unto you, that it is my will that a house should be built unto me in the land of Zion [Kirtland?], like unto the pattern which I have given you.

10. Old Testament | Daniel 9:20-27
   20 ¶ And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God;
   21 Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.
   22 And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.
   23 At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.
   24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
   25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
   26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
   27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
