Glass-Lookers?

Since most of us have now become a flock of habitual glass-lookers, I thought it an opportune time to remember Joseph Smith, Jun.. Over eight years ago, I posted two observations about glass looking — ours and his1 — and in the intervening years, not much has changed for us, except the ubiquity of use, the frequency of use, and the misuse of use.

Just like Hiram Page2 our “iStones” can be a source of deception – one of several amazing tools to port the “lying wonders”3 of the last days. But because our glass-looking devices can also port truth, we have recently been informed of the creation of a “Disinformation Governance Board” under the direction of the USA DHS.4

Should this concern us? Should we have been concerned years ago when the escalating censorship by monopolized big tech companies began? If Satan is the father of lies,5 the prince of this world,6 and the angry-one intent on destroying agency and the world God designed and created,7 where do we think this disinformation governance is leading? to defense of truth? or to a new Kristallnacht — a virtual night-of-broken-glass8 — when truth goes into an all-knowing, algorithmic blackout? when only images, opinions, and facts authenticated and legalized by BIG governance are permitted? when the web of lies is fully woven?

So many seem so blasé about what is rapidly unfolding. Why do our latter-day reality and prayer warriors seem so few and far between? What do we see when we look into the mirror? someone who is awakened to a sense of our awful situation as commanded9? or someone who believes in and trusts the power elites, the experts, the governance?

It shouldn't require a crystal ball to divine the intended future from this coercive present. Less than eighty-five years ago, Kristallnacht happened and we vowed the like would never happen again. Now, it's all tragically déjà vu — this breaking of more than glass; this breaking of values, rights, memory, integrity, and on and on — yet the majority seem to pretend it's all justified for safety, order, and (alleged) love of an (alleged) over-populated, human-polluted, plague-prone planet. Though, according to a diminishing number of others, tyranny can never, ever happen here. Leaders are too dedicated, caring, trustworthy; “manifest destiny” is too unstoppable. Yet, why did God command us to awaken to our awful situation if all we do is act like there is nothing to do but hunker down or continue to pursue the good life, as best we can, till the rapture?

What if this partial quote of a familiar phrase is true? “If you don't stand for something, you will fall.”10

So what do we do about this world-wide-web of lies that flood our devices and TVs every day? Yes, of course, we seek out truths, but ignoring lies will not make them go away; too many accept the falsehoods. Somehow we must get to the root, as set out in this month-old, YT vlog that appeared on my tablet within hours after I wrote the above blog draft. Whatever one knows or thinks of Dana Coverstone and his graphic dreams, this vlog, “The Machines Dream” perhaps holds a key:
The Shutting Down The Machines Dream
with Cherie Goff and Dana Coverstone
(Dana Coverstone | circa April12(?), 2022 | Time: 41:57 min.)11
In a visual way, this dream manifests the words of John the Baptist and of Henry David Thoreau
10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.12

There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root.13
How do we hack at the massive, entangled roots of deception — the web of lies? Perhaps, first and foremost is through private and public prayers: to plead for truths to be revealed with greater acceptance; for lies and secrets to be exposed; for courage to stand against evil; to do our part as directed by the Spirit; for strength to trust in God instead of the world; for the blind and deaf to see and hear. Should we be offering fervent prayers confessing and seeking forgiveness for ourselves, our families, and our nations? just as Moses did;14 as Solomon did;15 as Daniel;16 as the brother of Jared;17 as Enos;18 as Joseph Smith.19

Do we even recognize the need for repentance and forgiveness? Perhaps your area is different from mine, but it is rare to hear pleadings like unto Moses, Daniel, and others. Even my own prayers20 seem too often constrained into a box of expectation, tradition, and fear of offending mortal listeners.

Let us break away from our rote prayer traditions. Using our devices where needful, let us join with other people of faith, whether in public or private, near or far, and plead for God's help in overcoming the lies that are spinning and churning 24-7 as the father of those lies pursues the destruction of agency and the re-making of the world in his imagination, through his power paradigm of brute force.

Fervent, confessing, repentant prayer has more power to call God forth than many of us (in my experience) believe. And I wonder, too, if a 2022 update of Doctrine and Covenants Section 12321 by faithful believers in God everywhere has met a renewed imperative duty sufficiently to call God forth. So many exposés of evil have been documented and published that most of us will be without excuse. And though many of us are still living in relative stability, the world for many others has already descended into a new Kristallnacht. O, that we were hearing and offering prayers for saints and sinners, for family, friends, and enemies, like the prayer of Joseph during the Kirtland Temple dedication.22

Let us pray as never before that the words of Isaiah may be again fulfilled:
1 THE Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
4 ¶ And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.23

2. Doctrine and Covenants | Section 28:11-12
   11 And again, thou [Oliver Cowdery] shalt take thy brother, Hiram Page, between him and thee alone, and tell him that those things which he hath written from that stone are not of me and that Satan deceiveth him;
   12 For, behold, these things have not been appointed unto him, neither shall anything be appointed unto any of this church contrary to the church covenants.
3. New Testament | 2 Thessalonians 2:7-12
   7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
   8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
   9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
   10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
   11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
   12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

5. Pearl of Great Price | Moses 4:3-4, 6
   3 Wherefore, because that Satan rebelled against me, and sought to destroy the agency of man, which I, the Lord God, had given him, and also, that I should give unto him mine own power; by the power of mine Only Begotten, I caused that he should be cast down;
   4 And he became Satan, yea, even the devil, the father of all lies, to deceive and to blind men, and to lead them captive at his will, even as many as would not hearken unto my voice. ...
   6 And Satan put it into the heart of the serpent, (for he had drawn away many after him,) and he sought also to beguile Eve, for he knew not the mind of God, wherefore he sought to destroy the world.
Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 9:9
   9 And our spirits must have become like unto him, and we become devils, angels to a devil, to be shut out from the presence of our God, and to remain with the father of lies, in misery, like unto himself; yea, to that being who beguiled our first parents, who transformeth himself nigh unto an angel of light, and stirreth up the children of men unto secret combinations of murder and all manner of secret works of darkness.

New Testament | John 16:8-11
   8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
   9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;

21. Doctrine and Covenants | Section 123:1-17
   1 AND again, we would suggest for your consideration the propriety of all the saints gathering up a knowledge of all the facts, and sufferings and abuses put upon them by the people of this State;
   2 And also of all the property and amount of damages which they have sustained, both of character and personal injuries, as well as real property;
   3 And also the names of all persons that have had a hand in their oppressions, as far as they can get hold of them and find them out.
   4 And perhaps a committee can be appointed to find out these things, and to take statements and affidavits; and also to gather up the libelous publications that are afloat;
   5 And all that are in the magazines, and in the encyclopedias, and all the libelous histories that are published, and are writing, and by whom, and present the whole concatenation of diabolical rascality and nefarious and murderous impositions that have been practised upon this people—
   6 That we may not only publish to all the world, but present them to the heads of government in all their dark and hellish hue, as the last effort which is enjoined on us by our Heavenly Father, before we can fully and completely claim that promise which shall call him forth from his hiding place; and also that the whole nation may be left without excuse before he can send forth the power of his mighty arm.
   7 It is an imperative duty that we owe to God, to angels, with whom we shall be brought to stand, and also to ourselves, to our wives and children, who have been made to bow down with grief, sorrow, and care, under the most damning hand of murder, tyranny, and oppression, supported and urged on and upheld by the influence of that spirit which hath so strongly riveted the creeds of the fathers, who have inherited lies, upon the hearts of the children, and filled the world with confusion, and has been growing stronger and stronger, and is now the very mainspring of all corruption, and the whole earth groans under the weight of its iniquity.
   8 It is an iron yoke, it is a strong band; they are the very handcuffs, and chains, and shackles, and fetters of hell.
   9 Therefore it is an imperative duty that we owe, not only to our own wives and children, but to the widows and fatherless, whose husbands and fathers have been murdered under its iron hand;
   10 Which dark and blackening deeds are enough to make hell itself shudder, and to stand aghast and pale, and the hands of the very devil to tremble and palsy.
   11 And also it is an imperative duty that we owe to all the rising generation, and to all the pure in heart—
   12 For there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it—
   13 Therefore, that we should waste and wear out our lives in bringing to light all the hidden things of darkness, wherein we know them; and they are truly manifest from heaven—
   14 These should then be attended to with great earnestness.
   15 Let no man count them as small things; for there is much which lieth in futurity, pertaining to the saints, which depends upon these things.
   16 You know, brethren, that a very large ship is benefited very much by a very small helm in the time of a storm, by being kept workways with the wind and the waves.
   17 Therefore, dearly beloved brethren, let us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power; and then may we stand still, with the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed.
22Doctrine and Covenants | Section 109 (a sampling out of 80 verses):
   29 We ask thee, Holy Father, to confound, and astonish, and to bring to shame and confusion, all those who have spread lying reports abroad, over the world, against thy servant or servants, if they will not repent, when the everlasting gospel shall be proclaimed in their ears;
   30 And that all their works may be brought to naught, and be swept away by the hail, and by the judgments which thou wilt send upon them in thine anger, that there may be an end to lyings and slanders against thy people. ...
   34 O Jehovah, have mercy upon this people, and as all men sin forgive the transgressions of thy people, and let them be blotted out forever. ...
   43 O Lord, we delight not in the destruction of our fellow men; their souls are precious before thee;
   44 But thy word must be fulfilled. Help thy servants to say, with thy grace assisting them: Thy will be done, O Lord, and not ours.
   45 We know that thou hast spoken by the mouth of thy prophets terrible things concerning the wicked, in the last days—that thou wilt pour out thy judgments, without measure;
   46 Therefore, O Lord, deliver thy people from the calamity of the wicked; enable thy servants to seal up the law, and bind up the testimony, that they may be prepared against the day of burning. ...
   48 Thou knowest, O Lord, that they have been greatly oppressed and afflicted by wicked men; and our hearts flow out with sorrow because of their grievous burdens. ...
   50 Have mercy, O Lord, upon the wicked mob, who have driven thy people, that they may cease to spoil, that they may repent of their sins if repentance is to be found;
   51 But if they will not, make bare thine arm, O Lord, and redeem that which thou didst appoint a Zion unto thy people.
   52 And if it cannot be otherwise, that the cause of thy people may not fail before thee may thine anger be kindled, and thine indignation fall upon them, that they may be wasted away, both root and branch, from under heaven;
   53 But inasmuch as they will repent, thou art gracious and merciful, and wilt turn away thy wrath when thou lookest upon the face of thine Anointed.
   54 Have mercy, O Lord, upon all the nations of the earth; have mercy upon the rulers of our land; may those principles, which were so honorably and nobly defended, namely, the Constitution of our land, by our fathers, be established forever.
   55 Remember the kings, the princes, the nobles, and the great ones of the earth, and all people, and the churches, all the poor, the needy, and afflicted ones of the earth;
   56 That their hearts may be softened when thy servants shall go out from thy house, O Jehovah, to bear testimony of thy name; that their prejudices may give way before the truth, and thy people may obtain favor in the sight of all;
   57 That all the ends of the earth may know that we, thy servants, have heard thy voice, and that thou hast sent us; ...
   72 Remember all thy church, O Lord, with all their families, and all their immediate connections, with all their sick and afflicted ones, with all the poor and meek of the earth; that the kingdom, which thou hast set up without hands, may become a great mountain and fill the whole earth;
   73 That thy church may come forth out of the wilderness of darkness, and shine forth fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners; ...
   77 O Lord God Almighty, hear us in these our petitions, and answer us from heaven, thy holy habitation, where thou sittest enthroned, with glory, honor, power, majesty, might, dominion, truth, justice, judgment, mercy, and an infinity of fulness, from everlasting to everlasting.
   78 O hear, O hear, O hear us, O Lord! And answer these petitions, and accept the dedication of this house unto thee, the work of our hands, which we have built unto thy name;
   79 And also this church, to put upon it thy name. And help us by the power of thy Spirit, that we may mingle our voices with those bright, shining seraphs around thy throne, with acclamations of praise, singing Hosanna to God and the Lamb!

With a Voice of Singing*

In our local paper this week, a front-page headline read:
“Alberta loosens rules for singing ...”
The column text read in part:
“... top doctor says people can sing and play wind instruments indoors once again, provided COVID-19 precautions are in place. / ... says those activities were severely restricted because they were thought [1] to poise unique risks of spreading the virus. / But she says new evidence shows they can be done safely with certain safeguards. // ... Choirs can restart with maximum size limits and masks, but audience singing is still not allowed.” (Bold emphasis added.)
Not allowed?! Is such a continuing ban conceivable? YET it is mandated — in many places all over the world! Even in our world-wide, choir-famous church! And we acquiesce?!2

Do we not understand the everlasting role of singing in God's kingdom? that the song of the righteous is a prayer unto [God]?3 perhaps the most powerful prayer considering the hundreds of references in scripture and prophecy to singing?4 Have we ever witnessed the incredible power of hymns, spirituals, and other songs to change ambience; strengthen endurance; lift souls; even perhaps, precipitate an earthquake when it was needed?5

Is the ban on singing because of COVID or about something else? What if singing could change the world? What if the most powerful prayer is the song and we have gone silent? What if all the outrage, cursing, cries, and so forth at protests and marches were channeled, instead, into songs of faith, hope, charity, and rejoicing in the strength of unity? Could it change the mood of protesters, enforcers, and perhaps even counter-protesters?

What if gifted choirs and vocalists would gather as flash mobs6 all over the world at capitol buildings, parks, city squares, corporate / media offices, “elite” conferences, freedom / protest marches, and so forth, and sing songs of hope and joy, (including, where appropriate, songs of praise for the God of Heaven, the Creator of Heaven and Earth)? songs of rejoicing in life and freedomsnot dirges of piety or judgment, but upbeat songs, from whatever source or time, that lift the soul? Could such songs soften the hearts of “authorities,” leaders, planners, protesters? Could composers and lyricists rise to the challenge? grant rights to activists / marchers / flash mobs to perform already existing works that “cry freedom”? (Perhaps we could begin with Bobby Darin's “Simple Song of Freedom”  —  Della Reese style.)

And maybe, just maybe, song could inspire renewed courage to stand for rights and freedoms in leaders who have been compromised or fear-driven to the point they feel no choice but to “obey orders” from behind-the-scenes “superiors”? Instead of cursing at seeming or budding tyrants, could we sing rousing songs of freedom and encouragement for them to stand with integrity? Let them know we understand the over-arching tyranny that rules them, even as presidents, prime ministers, premiers, governors, et al., but that the tyranny that rules them does not justify their passing it down? Remind them that our commitment to honoring obeying, or sustaining law applies only to Constitutional law and to the service of honest, wise, and good men and women?7 Could we even ferret out the controlling insiders and “plague” them with song? Instead of chanting robotic phrases, let us sing great songs that stir the soul.

Perhaps singing would prove the greatest protest strategy of all time and result in calling God out of His hiding place to end the evils that the weaknesses and obsessions of mankind have brought to such a point as this escalating world-wide tyranny.

Let us remember:
Go ye forth of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter to the end of the earth; say ye: The Lord hath redeemed his servant Jacob.8

[and] he inviteth ... all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile.9
--------------------------------------/
* Old Testament | Isaiah 48:20 | Book of Mormon | 1 Nephi 20:20 ~ Go ye forth of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter to the end of the earth; say ye: The Lord hath redeemed his servant Jacob. ([Bold emphasis added.]

1. Do you not see? Evidence had no role in this initial rule. It was merely thought and the prohibition descended against singing, which could be argued is, the most powerful form of worship and means to invite the Spirit of God. Under this contagion rule, when will it ever be safe to sing again in congregation or choir? Fear of contagion, natural or manufactured, has become the perfect control vehicle.

4. Word-search “singing” | “song” in scripture. A few examples follow:
New Testament | Romans 15:9-11 ~ And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name. And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people. And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people.
New Testament | Revelation 15:3 ~ And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.
Book of Mormon | 1 Nephi 21:13 ~ Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; for the feet of those who are in the east shall be established; and break forth into singing, O mountains; for they shall be smitten no more; for the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.
Old Testament | Jeremiah 20:13 ~ Sing unto the LORD, praise ye the LORD: for he hath delivered the soul of the poor from the hand of evildoers.
Old Testament | Psalms 100:1-5 ~ MAKE a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
Old Testament | Psalms 96:1-3 ~ O SING unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth. Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.
New Testament | Colossians 3:16 ~ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Old Testament | 2 Chronicles 5:12–13 ~ Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:) It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;
5. New Testament | Acts 16:25-26 ~ And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.
7. Doctrine and Covenants | Section 98:5-10 ~ And that law of the land which is constitutional, supporting that principle of freedom in maintaining rights and privileges, belongs to all mankind, and is justifiable before me. Therefore, I, the Lord, justify you, and your brethren of my church, in befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land; And as pertaining to law of man, whatsoever is more or less than this, cometh of evil. I, the Lord God, make you free, therefore ye are free indeed; and the law also maketh you free. Nevertheless, when the wicked rule the people mourn. Wherefore, honest men and wise men should be sought for diligently, and good men and wise men ye should observe to uphold; otherwise whatsoever is less than these cometh of evil.
Doctrine and Covenants | Section 134:5 ~ We believe that all men are bound to sustain and uphold the respective governments in which they reside, while protected in their inherent and inalienable rights by the laws of such governments; [Entire section reproduced below at **]
Doctrine and Covenants | Section 101:77-80 ~ According to the laws and constitution of the people, which I have suffered to be established, and should be maintained for the rights and protection of all flesh, according to just and holy principles; That every man may act in doctrine and principle pertaining to futurity, according to the moral agency which I have given unto him, that every man may be accountable for his own sins in the day of judgment. Therefore, it is not right that any man should be in bondage one to another. And for this purpose have I established the Constitution of this land, by the hands of wise men whom I raised up unto this very purpose, and redeemed the land by the shedding of blood.
**Doctrine and Covenants | Section 134:1-12 ~ WE believe that governments were instituted of God for the benefit of man; and that he holds men accountable for their acts in relation to them, both in making laws and administering them, for the good and safety of society. We believe that no government can exist in peace, except such laws are framed and held inviolate as will secure to each individual the free exercise of conscience, the right and control of property, and the protection of life. We believe that all governments necessarily require civil officers and magistrates to enforce the laws of the same; and that such as will administer the law in equity and justice should be sought for and upheld by the voice of the people if a republic, or the will of the sovereign. We believe that religion is instituted of God; and that men are amenable to him, and to him only, for the exercise of it, unless their religious opinions prompt them to infringe upon the rights and liberties of others; but we do not believe that human law has a right to interfere in prescribing rules of worship to bind the consciences of men, nor dictate forms for public or private devotion; that the civil magistrate should restrain crime, but never control conscience; should punish guilt, but never suppress the freedom of the soul. We believe that all men are bound to sustain and uphold the respective governments in which they reside, while protected in their inherent and inalienable rights by the laws of such governments; and that sedition and rebellion are unbecoming every citizen thus protected, and should be punished accordingly; and that all governments have a right to enact such laws as in their own judgments are best calculated to secure the public interest; at the same time, however, holding sacred the freedom of conscience. We believe that every man should be honored in his station, rulers and magistrates as such, being placed for the protection of the innocent and the punishment of the guilty; and that to the laws all men show respect and deference, as without them peace and harmony would be supplanted by anarchy and terror; human laws being instituted for the express purpose of regulating our interests as individuals and nations, between man and man; and divine laws given of heaven, prescribing rules on spiritual concerns, for faith and worship, both to be answered by man to his Maker. We believe that rulers, states, and governments have a right, and are bound to enact laws for the protection of all citizens in the free exercise of their religious belief; but we do not believe that they have a right in justice to deprive citizens of this privilege, or proscribe them in their opinions, so long as a regard and reverence are shown to the laws and such religious opinions do not justify sedition nor conspiracy. We believe that the commission of crime should be punished according to the nature of the offense; that murder, treason, robbery, theft, and the breach of the general peace, in all respects, should be punished according to their criminality and their tendency to evil among men, by the laws of that government in which the offense is committed; and for the public peace and tranquility all men should step forward and use their ability in bringing offenders against good laws to punishment. We do not believe it just to mingle religious influence with civil government, whereby one religious society is fostered and another proscribed in its spiritual privileges, and the individual rights of its members, as citizens, denied. We believe that all religious societies have a right to deal with their members for disorderly conduct, according to the rules and regulations of such societies; provided that such dealings be for fellowship and good standing; but we do not believe that any religious society has authority to try men on the right of property or life, to take from them this world's goods, or to put them in jeopardy of either life or limb, or to inflict any physical punishment upon them. They can only excommunicate them from their society, and withdraw from them their fellowship. We believe that men should appeal to the civil law for redress of all wrongs and grievances, where personal abuse is inflicted or the right of property or character infringed, where such laws exist as will protect the same; but we believe that all men are justified in defending themselves, their friends, and property, and the government, from the unlawful assaults and encroachments of all persons in times of exigency, where immediate appeal cannot be made to the laws, and relief afforded. We believe it just to preach the gospel to the nations of the earth, and warn the righteous to save themselves from the corruption of the world; but we do not believe it right to interfere with bond–servants, neither preach the gospel to, nor baptize them contrary to the will and wish of their masters, nor to meddle with or influence them in the least to cause them to be dissatisfied with their situations in this life, thereby jeopardizing the lives of men; such interference we believe to be unlawful and unjust, and dangerous to the peace of every government allowing human beings to be held in servitude. [But see D&C 98:5-10 above about the rejection of human bondage. Research Joseph Smith's  proposal to end slavery in America by the government purchasing their freedom in the hopes of ending the practice peacefully.]

9. Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 26:32–33 ~ And again, the Lord God hath commanded that men should not murder; that they should not lie; that they should not steal; that they should not take the name of the Lord their God in vain; that they should not envy; that they should not have malice; that they should not contend one with another; that they should not commit whoredoms; and that they should do none of these things; for whoso doeth them shall perish. For none of these iniquities come of the Lord; for he doeth that which is good among the children of men; and he doeth nothing save it be plain unto the children of men; and he inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile.
Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 30:1-3 ~ AND now behold, my beloved brethren, I would speak unto you; for I, Nephi, would not suffer that ye should suppose that ye are more righteous than the Gentiles shall be. For behold, except ye shall keep the commandments of God ye shall all likewise perish; and because of the words which have been spoken ye need not suppose that the Gentiles are utterly destroyed. For behold, I say unto you that as many of the Gentiles as will repent are the covenant people of the Lord; and as many of the Jews as will not repent shall be cast off; for the Lord covenanteth with none save it be with them that repent and believe in his Son, who is the Holy One of Israel. And now, I would prophesy somewhat more concerning the Jews and the Gentiles. For after the book of which I have spoken shall come forth, and be written unto the Gentiles, and sealed up again unto the Lord, there shall be many which shall believe the words which are written; and they shall carry them forth unto the remnant of our seed.
